The Cork Examiner, 21 February 1925
The Pope and Oxford.
A year ago Mr. Philip Laszlo, the famous portrait painter, was honoured by the Pope with sittings for a portrait [6690] which Mr. Laszlo wished to paint. Mr. Laszlo has presented the work to the Bodleian Library at Oxford, which has accepted it. It shows the Pope in his State robes. The present commemorates the interesting fact that at one time the Pope, when Father Ratti, S.J., pursued certain researches at the Bodleian. It may be remembered that on the elevation of Pius XI to the Papacy he received a message of congratulation from the University of Oxford.
