Southern California has long been a cornerstone of competitive Smash Bros, and we believe it’s time to reignite that legacy. After over a year in the making, we’re proud to introduce the Ultimate Apex Series 2025 and SharkRank! Presented by Gen.G and Club Smash, this initiative is set to put SoCal back on the map.

This document is your go-to resource for all things related to the UAS and SharkRank. Updates will be made as new details emerge, so stay tuned—information is subject to change at any time.


FAQS

What is the Ultimate Apex Series 2025?

  • A regional SSBU competitive series uniting all players and events across SoCal. The UAS and SharkRank is part of our mission to foster growth within the grassroots organizations and incite competition amongst the dedicated player base in our region.

How are data and points collected?

  • We gather event standings and details listed on start.gg to collect player results and other tournament data. Once collected, this data is entered into our in-house ranking platform, SharkRank.

What is SharkRank?

  • SharkRank is a new point and ranking system developed by Club Smash. It's a data gathering platform designed with a scaled weight structure based on overall attendance. We're applying it to both player results and tournament data within the SoCal region, as well as to large scale events that are out of region (64+ entrants) for eligible players.

How is SharkRank different from other ranking systems?

  • Rather than a simple point assessment for the top scoring players like other PRs do, it’s a system that rewards consistency and reasonable placements over simply winning most events. In our years of running Shark Tank and watching the SoCal Smash Community evolve, we recognized that countless players and TOs possess exceptional skill and unwavering passion for the game, yet they often go unnoticed. We believe such a system will help shine a light on those individuals and ignite long-lasting dedication.

Who tracks SharkRank?

  • The staff at Lylat Technologies (Club Smash) is recording tournament data and player results daily.

How can I include my tournament?

  • Any SoCal tournament that’s reported on start.gg with 4 or more players is automatically included. If you notice your tournament is missing from our data, please reach out!

    Note: To be included on SoCalSmash.net, your event must be listed with a single date—events using date ranges will not be picked up. If your tournament isn’t showing up, please let us know so we can add it to both our database and the website.

How do I report my tournament results?

  • By featuring your tournament on start.gg, and making sure the location and standings are listed. That's it! We take care of the rest!

Do I have to pay to be involved with the UAS?

  • No, our efforts are pro bono to support the SoCal Smash Community! Monetary donations are optional and go directly to the UAS prize pool. If you have other resources to offer, let us know how you’d like to contribute! Collaborations are welcomed!

How much is the prize pool for the UAS?

  • $2400 USD prize pool (minimum). Additionally, 1st Place wins a paid trip to an overseas major in 2025 (housing and travel covered).

How can I apply SharkRank to my tournament specifically?

  • The beauty with SharkRank is that it's a fun tool that can be used for individual tournaments or a group of ongoing events. It's an exciting way to spur engagement and competition within your community. Partner tier collaborations will include tracking for your recurring events (performed by Club Smash).

Where can I check tournament event data and player results?

NOTE: Player points may fluctuate over time as we update and correct our system. A notable change may also occur to your point total when regional+ sized events (64+) are accurately reflected in the data.

How often are the sheets updated?

  • While we record data daily, we’re aiming to update the sheets every Monday. This is subject to change at any time, however.

Do majors and out-of-region events count?

  • Any major and out-of-region events that have more than 64 players will be included. In order for players to earn points from larger events, they must meet our Player Eligibility requirements.  


NOTE: Criteria for this is currently in development and will be implemented at a later date.

Are out-of-region players eligible?

  • Yes, in order for them to be eligible, they must have participated in at least six SoCal tournaments per season.

What is the duration of the UAS?

  • The initial season will run for six months, from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025. Any future seasons will be announced at a later date.

When and where will the official UAS events be held?

  • We will be hosting both the Last Apex Standing and Finale on the weekend of July 12-13. We’re currently in the process of selecting a venue and ironing out the details. Please check back under UAS Event Details for updates.

Is there a list of more specific requirements and details?

Basic Details OOR 64+ events:

ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA

For TOs - Event Inclusion

  • Minimum 4 Players per event.
  • Must be in-person. Online events are not included.
  • Must use a common competitive Bo3 or Bo5 format.
  • Points from your event are assigned to players on a weighted scale based on attendance. Please refer to the Points Allocation on this document.
  • Events with 12+ attendees will receive normal weighted points.
  • Events with 4-11 attendees will be subject to a 0.5 Multiplier (half points).
  • Other tournament data collected is ranked by overall attendance and frequency. This data is used solely for SharkRank purposes.
  • Event Stats will be updated on this sheet: SharkRank Event Stats 2025
  • If your event is not referenced on Socalsmash.net, it may not be included. Please let us know if your event is not featured so that we can add your tournament to the website and our SharkRank database.
  • If you have noticed events not being tracked accurately, reach out via our SharkRank Discord by sending a DM to an Admin.

For Players - Points Assignment

  • UAS Player Eligibility: To be eligible for the Ultimate Apex Series, players must reside in the Southern California region and have attended at least 1 SoCal event.
  • Out-of-region players must attend a minimum of 6 SoCal Events.
  • Points will be assigned based on player eligibility, event size, participation in locals, regionals, and majors.
  • Points are assigned to every placement (e.g., 1st-32nd will receive weighted points in a 32-player bracket). Please refer to Points Allocation on this document for more details.
  • Players competing in events with 4-11 participants will receive a 0.5 Multiplier (half points).
  • Player Points will be updated on this sheet: SharkRank Player Points 2025
  • If a player has more than one account, the account with the highest points will be tracked.
  • In order for points to be collected, players must complete their start.gg registration for each tournament they compete in. Manual adds will not be included.

Majors and Larger Events
NOTE: Criteria is currently in development for majors and will be implemented at a later date.

  • Participants in majors, or events with 64+ players, receive a minimum value (50 pts) regardless of placement below 50th percentile.
  • Placements above 50th percentile will instead receive a weighted value based on overall attendance past 64, with a specific multiplier for major size (TBA).
  • Player result scores may fluctuate over time as we update and correct our system. A notable change may also occur to your point total when regional+ sized events (64+) are accurately reflected in the data.
  • If you are missing points from a participation in a major, please let us know. NOTE: points for larger tournaments have not yet been included.
