Practicing Strategies for Success on Technical Exams

Introduction

Success in the College of Engineering & Applied Science requires success in your technical courses. However, many of the voices we’ll hear from this semester outline challenges many first-year students experience when transitioning to college exams.

Our video content this week is intended to help you navigate this transition to college exams:

Assignment

There are three options available to you to attend this week.  Please select your preferred option.  You will be asked to reflect on this experience in your D2L quiz this week.

Option 1: Visit your APPM math class office hours

Visit office hours for APPM Precalculus, Calc 1 or Calc 2 before Sunday, Sept. 11.  You can find office hours on your  class website.

Option 2: Visit the APPM math help room

Visit office hours for APPM Precalculus, Calc 1 or Calc 2 before Sunday, Sept. 11.  You can find the time and locations for your course on the class websites.

Option 3: Take an APPM practice exam

Visit the APPM exam archives and find the exams and solutions for your APPM course. Choose one exam and struggle with the problems, preferably in a classroom similar (or identical!) to the one in which you will take your midterm exam. (Do not use the solutions until you are grading!) Complete at least three questions on one exam then grade the exam. Remember, the goal is to train with difficult problems and to practice taking exams in context.
