Year 2 Newsletter, Term 2, 2017
We welcome back everyone for an awesome term. A special welcome to new students and families joining the Elm Park family.
Important dates this term:
Our learning focus for the term:
This term we will be launching our Inquiry Unit called ‘Let’s Celebrate’
A main focus of this inquiry will be on how and what we celebrate, with a special focus on the upcoming
Elm Park School’s 50th Jubilee Celebrations.
We will begin the unit through a school-wide celebration on Friday 5th May where students will have an opportunity to share, participate in and reflect on what a celebration is.
By the end of this inquiry students will be able to articulate their learning by sharing their knowledge of different celebrations and their different features.
We will be continuing with e-Portfolios as a means of keeping you up to date with your child’s learning. It would be fantastic if you log on and comment on what you see, using your parent login. See the office personnel in case you are unsure of your login details.
This is set at $100 for the year. You can either pay this amount as a whole, or in increments over the year if that is convenient. Please contact the office for other easy payment options. This fee covers the cost of classroom resources, class trips and groups visiting the school and sports activities throughout the year.
You can pay directly into the school bank account, make sure you use your child’s name and room number as a reference 12-3109-0012543-02 or you can pay directly into wrapitup.co.nz or come into the school office and use eftpos.
A reminder that we will be visiting the Auckland Museum in the last week of this term.
Uniforms: Please ensure that your child is in the correct school uniform and that all items of clothing are clearly named, jumper and shoes included. Hats are not compulsory this term.
Being prepared for the day:
We ask for your continued support in ensuring that your child has brought their book-bag with homework book and reader to school each day. It helps the children prepare for the day if they are in school and settled before the 8.55 am bell.
Year 2 Homework:
This term we will begin sending home spelling and basic facts lists. The lists will be glued into homework books on Mondays for learning over the week and students will be tested on Fridays. Please note: Not all students will have spelling and/or basic facts lists for homework. Please see the note in your child’s homework book or see their teacher if you are unsure.
Also, please encourage your child to continue to read their readers each night and login to Reading Eggs/press and Mathletics for further practice.
