Kindergarten

Mrs. Devin Stanford

"All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them." M. Johnson

In my classroom, my hope is that students feel safe, enthusiastic, independent, and free to grow and learn in the ways that suit them best. You will see students working in unconventional spaces in unconventional ways but that is what keeps us moving forward! We work hard and play hard, learning new things every day! I am thrilled to be able to do the job that has been in my heart since I was a child. Thank you for allowing me the honor of teaching and growing with your child each day!

Kindergarten

Miss Evie Milburn

"Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning."  ~ John Meehan

I am so excited to be a part of the Winding Creek staff and to be returning to Kindergarten. I cannot wait to instill a love of learning in the lives of these young students.

Kindergarten

Ms. Danielle Hake

I am so excited to be a part of your child's educational experience! Kindergarten is a magical journey. My job is to develop the imagination of your child and help them to become active learners and inquisitive, reflective, creative thinkers; to learn to work hard, make good choices, and be kind. Through our day we engage them, laugh with them, listen to their stories and allow space for the unique facets of each child to blossom.  In my room children will learn through authentic experiences, will be engaged experientially, and will work together with their peers to ask questions and solve problems.  Welcome to the beginning of your child’s educational journey!

They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”  ~Carl W. Buechner

Kindergarten

Mrs. Pam Crider

"Play is the beginning of knowledge." - George Dempsey

1st Grade

Mrs. Shayla Bloes

I feel honored and fortunate to be an educator. Every day is a new day to teach, to model respect and kindness, to validate children's dreams and aspirations, and to motivate and encourage every child to do their best. Recently, I asked my First graders what makes a teacher great. There is no greater reflection than the opinion and honest responses of a young child. My students responded; They help you learn Math and Reading better, They are kind and help others, they let us earn rewards for being good, and they let us have fun sometimes. Their responses validated my goals as an educator.

1st Grade

Mrs. Ashley Garrett

Learning is my hobby, and teaching is my passion.  My goal as a teacher is to inspire my students and to ignite a love of learning for the rest of their lives.  To accomplish this goal, I believe in the importance of relationships, the power of a classroom community, creatively teaching and engaging my students with a variety of strategies, and promoting independence, perseverance, and fun.  I am so excited to be a member of the Winding Creek Elementary team, and I cannot wait to begin serving its community!

1st Grade

Mr. Kevin Scharlau

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” ~ Mr. Rogers

Play is an important part to my teaching.  Teaching is filled with drama that unfolds within the classroom.  The teacher serves as the co-player or play leader allowing students to gain a love for learning.  Lev Vygotsky said “In play a child always behaves beyond his average age, above his daily behavior.  In play it is as though he were a head taller than himself.”  Setting high expectations and instilling an “I can” attitude allow my students to build a foundation for their educational career.  My students are given the freedom to express and share, developing little voice to shout out and be heard!

1st Grade

Mrs. Michelle Jacobs

I am passionate about creating a caring classroom environment. I believe each child is uniquely gifted and I love helping each child learn more about themselves. I seek to inspire students to love learning. I value partnering with families to help children see I am a part of a team of people that care for them!

"Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding."- Robert John Meehan

“It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” –Meister Eckhart

I am excited to be joining the Winding Creek team as we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year! I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As an educator, it is my desire to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a safe environment that supports risk-taking and invites the sharing of ideas. I am eager to aid students in their transition as they join together to develop new friendships and successes at Winding Creek Elementary!

2nd Grade

Mrs. Jennifer Robinson

I am thrilled to be a part of this journey together as the Winding Creek team!  The idea of building a positive community from the ground up is incredible!  In our classroom, I believe in setting high expectations and then working with the students to meet them, through interesting, fun, and hands-on learning.  My goal is to provide a nurturing, safe, engaging, and positive place where learners can feel successful and happy to be there every day.  I cannot wait to see the beautiful faces of the class of 2029 walk into my Winding Creek classroom for the first time and create a meaningful relationship with each and every one of them!

2nd Grade

Mr. Larry Bricker

Our job is to teach the students we have.  Not the ones we would like to have.  Not the ones we used to have.  Those we have right now.  All of THEM. --Dr. Kevin Maxwell

Mrs. Patty Conner

I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with the staff, students, and parents of Winding Creek Elementary School in order to create an exciting climate of learning. 3rd Grade

Mrs. Kara Kitzig

Every child has that "one teacher" who inspires them and sparks their inquisitive mind. It is because of my teachers that I have made education my passion and life's work.

"Teaching and learning should bring joy. How powerful would our world be if we had kids who were not afraid to take risks, who were not afraid to think, and who had a champion? Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be." - Rita Pierson (Every Kid Needs a Champion)

3rd Grade

Miss Jessica Shafnisky

I am honored to have been selected as a staff member for Winding Creek Elementary.  I look forward to meeting many new families, working with new students, and growing alongside new colleagues.  Teaching is my absolute passion, and I cannot wait to share this passion with the Winding Creek community!

“If children are given the chance to believe they are worth something – if they truly believe that – they will insist upon it.”    - Maya Angelou

3rd Grade

Mr. Tota Ram Gautam

I wholeheartedly believe that the habits and the skills that the students in elementary school acquire will shape the future of our country and the world.  I

see my students and myself showing growth mindset and becoming better human

beings each and every day in my classroom. There is nothing else that I would rather do than nurture young minds intellectually, emotionally and socially, and help them become critical thinkers and problem solvers so that they can succeed and be career ready in the 21st century. I am thrilled to join Winding Creek!

4th Grade

Mr. Bill Creps

What an awesome opportunity to have a lasting impact on the foundation of the new Winding Creek Elementary. I can't wait to build an excellent school community that touches the FUTURE. I am so lucky!

4th Grade

Miss Shelby Lund

I am beyond excited to join the Winding Creek family! I will strive to make Winding Creek a nurturing, supportive environment where each student will find success. Learning will not only be exciting and engaging, but rigorous and relevant as well. Each day, our individual differences will be met and celebrated. See you soon, Winding Creek!

4th Grade

Miss Emily Savini

I focus on positive classroom behavior and creating a place where students feel safe and welcome.  Individualized instruction is a big component in my classroom, and I am always looking for teachable moments where I can further instruction to help students better understand the material, or challenge those who understand it.  Students in my room know that it isn't that they don't get it, they just don't get it YET!

4th Grade

Mrs. Carolyn Ferguson

I am very excited to be joining the Winding Creek Wolfpack! What an awesome journey we have before us, and I cannot wait to connect with my students and their families along the way! In my classroom, I encourage students to have a growth mindset and to embrace challenges. As Dory said in Finding Nemo, sometimes we have to "just keep swimming!" in order to accomplish the task before us (and we're stronger learners because of it!). I constantly strive to maintain a safe, collaborative, and fun environment for all students to learn and feel confident in themselves. See you soon, WC!

4th Grade

Mr. Jon Frank

I am so thankful and excited to be able to join the emerging Winding Creek family! My goal is to empower students as we create a respectful and challenging environment where they learn as a team and are encouraged to take ownership of their learning as well as their impact on the school community. The students play a vital role in determining the culture of a brand new school and I want to encourage the students to be active participants in this process. In the words of Troy Bolton, “We’re all in this together!”

5th Grade

Mr. Cody Ewert

On this journey of education, we are each a hiker on the footpath of life.  The beauty in the journey is the lessons we learn from the choices make.  We are powered by the motivation from others, but must take that next step on our own.  Aim for the highest point on the mountain and be ready to dig deep for the courage and determination to climb.  You will enjoy both the pride and the rewards of making it to the top.  We are all headed for greatness once we open our minds to the possibility.  I'm excited to explore greatness through teaching and learning with the community at Winding Creek Elementary!"

5th Grade

Mrs. Billiejo Monday

“Your’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So . . . get on your way!” ~ Dr. Seuss

I am very excited to be a part of the first chapter of Winding Creek’s story, and look forward to all the amazing learning adventures to come!

5th Grade

Mr. Sean McCown

It all started in the spring of 1997 as I was observing a class of 5th grade students while preparing to do my student teaching experience. The eyes of a girl named Markell lit up after I had explained a concept to her and she understood it! Since that day, I have loved being a teacher to all of the students with whom I have had the fortune of spending each year. I am looking forward to continuing that passion with the students at Winding Creek and am excited about the relationships we will form and the experiences we are going to share. What an exciting time this will be for the CV community and I am happy to be a part of it with my new teammates, your children, and you.

5th Grade

Ms. Samantha Whisler

"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark."  -Chinese Proverb

I am so excited to join the Winding Creek team!  We have an amazing opportunity to dive into a new adventure that will leave lasting impressions on so many, and I am extremely thankful for it!  In the classroom, I am a true believer in establishing a safe and comfortable environment for students; one where they are willing to make mistakes, and more importantly, they are able to learn from them.  I look forward to meeting all of the new Winding Creek faces as we begin this exciting journey.

5th Grade

Mrs. Elizabeth Allen

“He who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” ~Anonymous

As a lifelong learner, I count myself incredibly fortunate to have a career I love for all these years.  It has always been my desire to teach; to make a positive difference in the lives of children.  How surprised I was my very first day of teaching when I walked out of my classroom and realized that I was a better person because of my students.  They gave me such a gift that day.  Much to my delight, it happened again and again and again…and now here I am, 25 years later, realizing that the children I have been so honored to teach have made me a better person, Every. Single. Day.  I hope, in some small way, I have done the same for them.  That is my goal as an educator.  I’ve also learned that education is not all about academics.  It is about the relationships that are built in the classroom, in the hallways, on the playground, with the families that make academics possible.  Without those connections, we can’t reach our students and help them soar to their full potential. I am proud to be a Cumberland Valley educator and I look forward with joy and excitement at this new leg of my journey, as a Winding Creek family member.

Art

Mrs. Kortney Oswald

Learning the visual arts is bigger than making a picture to hang on the wall or a sculpture to put on a shelf.   It is about learning through practice and through making mistakes.  It is about learning a process and making a product.  It is about the discovery of self, as well as learning about world around you.  And most importantly, it is learning that art can be everywhere and in everything, if you just take the time to see it.

Computer

Mr. Paul Leidigh

You see things; and you say, "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?" - George Bernard Shaw

Excited to make an impact now and for the future with the future!!

Music

Mrs. Sarah Snyder

“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them — a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.” — Gerald Ford

While I am sad to be leaving students and colleagues I have grown to love at Sporting Hill, I am also incredibly excited to begin this new chapter at Winding Creek Elementary. I will continue doing my very best to serve the students here at Cumberland Valley.

Ms. Kailee Yoder

"It's the OOMPH that turns TRY into TRIUMPH!"

Speech Therapist

Miss Ashley Adams

I'm so excited to be part of the Winding Creek family! Communication allows for personal connection and is the key to educational success.  My goal is to treat students not disabilities.  I want to provide a warm inviting environment where students can build their communicative abilities in a natural way and parents and caregivers can learn with them to foster great speech/language skills in and out of the classroom!

"Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic." -Albus Dumbledore

Instructional Specialist

Mrs. Jennifer Yonick

Receiving a robust education enables a person to reach his or her full potential in all that they do in life. As a teacher, I strive to place responsibility for learning in students’ own hands. I believe that when students construct their own meaning from lessons, they feel empowered and are able to utilize strategies from their personal toolbox. Finally, I feel that one of my most important roles as a teacher is to form relationships with my students based on care, trust, and respect. When a teacher has a positive relationship with her students, there is a greater chance for educational success. I look forward to becoming a part of the Winding Creek family!
