*MOTIVATION AND DESCRIPTION*

The eighteenth edition of the International Computer Vision Summer School aims to provide both an objective and clear overview and an in-depth analysis of the state-of-the-art research in Computer Vision. The last decade has seen a revolution in the theory and application of computer vision and machine learning. The next decade will see machine perception in embodied systems which learn representations for and from action and interaction.

The courses will be delivered by world renowned experts in the field, from both academia and industry, and will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of real Computer Vision problems as well as examples of their successful commercialisation.

The school aims to provide a stimulating opportunity for young researchers and Ph.D. students. The participants will benefit from direct interaction and discussions with world leaders in Computer Vision. Participants will also have the possibility to present the results of their research, and to interact with their scientific peers, in a friendly and constructive environment.

*LIST OF SPEAKERS*

*SCHOOL DIRECTORS*

• Roberto Cipolla, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

• Sebastiano Battiato, University of Catania, Italy

• Giovanni Maria Farinella, University of Catania, Italy

*SPECIAL SESSION - Industry meets Student*

In addition to the academic programme, we are organizing a special session to allow students to meet and learn about the opportunities and activities at the world leading research laboratories and companies which are exploiting computer vision.

*INDUSTRIAL PANEL*

*READING GROUP*

https://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2024/ReadingGroup

Good ideas have deep roots. Understanding such roots is key to being able to generate new ideas moving forward. The main goal of the Reading Group is to understand and discuss with mentors ways in which exploration of these roots can be performed. The students will have a chance to meet and interact and discuss research with the speakers of the school in a dedicate session called “Meeting with Mentors”.

Detailed instructions with the rules of engagements will be sent to students after acceptance notification.

*ESSAY COMPETITION*

https://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2024/EssayCompetition

The essay competition reflects the importance of considering the “real world” social impact of technology alongside the fundamental goals of basic R&D.

Computer Vision is an area of scientific and technological development that will continue to have a profound impact on society. It will redefine the way in which information technology intersects and interfaces with medicine and other disciplines, it will play a key role in the care of an ageing population, and it is already a fundamental aspect of modern security technology.

Participants in the competition may write a piece of original work on a topic. Detailed instructions with the rules of engagements will be soon online.

*POSTER SESSION*

https://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2024/CallForPosters

Accepted students may submit a poster to present their research activity. The poster should be sent before 7 June 2024, 23:59, GMT +2:00, Italy Time. Please, read the Call for Student Poster section for poster guidelines.

A subset from the submitted posters will be selected by the school committee for short oral presentation. A best presentation prize will be given to the best presentation selected by the school committee.

*SOCIAL EVENTS*

In amongst a packed program of over 30 hours of school activities, there will be time for a tour of the ancient and picturesque town of Ragusa Ibla (RG) including the opportunity to experience the local traditions in the form of folk dancing and a delicious feast featuring many of the local delicacies. A social dinner and a party on the beach are also part of the social program.

My name is Marica Novakovic from IntechOpen, the world's leading Science, Technology and Medicine Open Access book publisher.

We came across your research and thought that you would be interested in learning more about relevant peer reviewed Open Access scientific literature available to read, share and download completely for free on the IntechOpen platform.

Our founder understood the need for freely accessible and open research.

“Back when I was a PhD student of Robotics in Vienna, I found it difficult to easily access the academic research I needed. Inspired by this need, and together with peers, we decided to create a new digital platform where researchers like ourselves could find critical information more easily and for free. Our first publications went online in 2004 and thus the IntechOpen publishing platform was born - built by scientists for scientists.”
Alex Lazinica
Founder & Executive Chairman, IntechOpen

Today, with over 17 years of experience and expertise, 6,300 OA books published, and a community of over 170,000 satisfied scientists globally, we have established relationships with leading research and funding organizations such as NASA, Wellcome Trust, the European Commission, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Additionally, we actively work on indexing our authors' works by the renowned databases such as Web of Science and DOAB among others, and IntechOpen as a publisher is a member of respected organizations like OASPA, ALPSP, STM, and COPE.

Therefore, as part of the science, technology and medicine community we wanted to contact you to make you aware of the opportunities that IntechOpen offers, so please feel free to explore the current projects open for submission.
