Theory of Music
Sound: Production, Characteristics, Musical and Unmusical, Types of Musical Sound.
Notation: Scale, Octave, Great Staff, Short Staff, Treble & Bass Clef.
Duration: Note Names, Note Shapes, Rest Shapes, Relative Values, Beaming, The Dot.
Rhythm and Tempo: Time Signatures, Bars, Barlines, Simple Time Definition, Compound Time Definition, Subdivision of Beat Notes, Definition of Tempo.
Music Writing
Accurately copy a score (provided by the examiner) in Simple Time, including Grace Notes, Doublings, Barlines and relevant markings.
Instrumental (Practical)
On Practice Chanter:
Play the Scale with and without the G Grace Note
Demonstrate the G,D,E Grace Note movement
Play all the Doublings, including D Throw
Explain the correct care for the Bagpipe and Practice Chanter
On Bagpipe:
Play proficiently a Simple Time March of 2 parts. The tune must include a variety of Grace Notes and Doublings. A score (of the setting to be played) must be submitted to the examiner.
