“Just a brief blurb from the Roving Sports Reporter following the 65+ Team as they ventured into Linden Territory for a weekend tournament.

The 65 Boys got off to a great start to the 2014 season by rolling over all competition on the way to a 4 and 0 record.

After driving through rain for two hours on Saturday and wondering what the hey are we doing this for,  the skies dried up and the games went as scheduled.

In the first game our local boys took on the Stettler 60+ team and cruised to a convincing 16 to 6 win.  While Stettler jumped out to a quick 4 runs in the top of the first  MH never let them out of their sights popping off three in the bottom of the inning.  After 4 innings the MH gang were up by four and with 8 runs in the last two innings the wind was out of Stettler’s sails and it was all over.  Some stellar hitting by Gord Deibert and Emerson Davies both going 5 for 5, Ray Bosssenworth going 4 for 5  and a couple more going 3 for five the game was never in doubt.

The afternoon contest proved a little more competitive with MH scratching out a hard fought 7 to 5 victory against Sundre.  Honourable mention going to Ray B, Rod Roden, Jim Noon, Ernie Ambrosie and Larry Savage all going 2 for 3.  Some sound defence kept the  Sundre boys scratching their head and did not allow them into the game or take any kind of lead.

Sunday say MH face off against Lacombe and rolling to a 15 to 11 win. Gord D, Em Davies, Rod, Jim N and Gord Masson all provided some timely hitting to keep Lacombe off balance throughout.

The last game saw MH taking on Stettler for the second time and winning by a count of 11 to 9.  MH led from start to finish but the Lacombe boys kept it close and were never too far out of the game at any time.  Gord D and Bob  C were both 3 for 4, Jim Noon at 3 for 3 and Tim, Ernie and Larry all going 2 for 3 provided all the offence necessary to complete the weekend.

A good effort all around and sets the stage for the tournament in Missoula in two weeks time.

The 65+ team would like to congratulate the 70+ team on a successful tournament as well, going 3 for 4 games while competing in the 65+ division.”
