Activity 7.3.1 Vaccine timeline

Introduction:

It was Isaac Newton who said, If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” We have many of our modern medical advancements because of small discoveries and new learnings accumulated over hundreds of years. In this assignment, you will be looking at the history of vaccines. Vaccines provide long-term immunity against many infectious diseases. The rate of death from infectious disease in children less than 5 has fallen from 30.4% of all deaths in 1900 to only 1.4% in 1997 thanks to vaccination and medical advancements.[1] The purpose of this activity is to familiarize you with the key players and events in the development of vaccines.

Activity:

You will create a timeline showing 10 different events or people throughout history that highlight the development, creation and understanding of vaccines. You need to include the following 7 people/events in your timeline. You can choose any other 3 you find interesting.

For each event or person, give a brief description of the importance of that event/person and the date it occurred.

You can use prezi, PowerPoint, or any other application that you’d like to complete this project. Please include your sources at the end.
