2. Sketch the layout and label the header, navigation, content, and footer of the homepage:

3. Describe the Visual Hierarchy. What do you notice 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? How is it effective (or ineffective) in communicating the website’s purpose?

4. Does the homepage follow the Rule of Thirds? How does it help to communicate the purpose of the website?

5. How is the homepage balanced or unbalanced? What elements are used to create balance on the website?

6. What is the color scheme?  Is the text readable?  What audience do the colors address?   What mood is created by the colors?

7.  What elements of texture are present on the homepage? What is the effect of the texture?

Design Your Own Website

1. Decide the purpose of your website.  What is the subject matter?  Who is your audience?

2. Find a website with a similar purpose or style that you think would fit your purpose well to use as a model.  What is the web url?

3. Sketch your own website, using model as a suggestion, but NOT an exact replica.  You will be using this sketch for the rest of the unit so take some time to make it useful to you.  Include basic dimensions and label the different parts.  You can attach a separate sheet of paper if you prefer.
