It's not every day that you get dealt the perfect hand. When all the cards look up at ya and say, "Hey pal. Today is your lucky day." You gotta remember to embrace those moments, cause before you know it, it's over, and all that you're left with is a sinking feeling inside that you just played the best hand of your life and let it all slip away.

Here I am trying out Freeze mage, minding my own business and playing my matches. I just crafted a Thalnos and was looking to break it in on the ladder, scrapping with some Druids and Paladins, pickin up wins when I could. It’s tough these days. Everybody's got secrets.

That's what this one looked like. Big fellow struttin around in his shiny armor and slinging those fancy gold cards. Pretty impressive I guess. Probably spent a whole year's worth gold to craft em. I didn't care. All I knew is that he wanted a piece of me, and I wanted to serve it up to him nice and cold.

We played a pretty standard fare. He was bringing his A game, swinging his shiny weapons and dropping his fancy golden epics. He got a couple hits in, but I didn't care. Every card looks the same when you dress it up with a cold block of ice. Throw in a Doomsayer or two and you got yourself enough wallop to wake the titans. I had him right where I wanted him. No secrets left but one noble sacrifice, just waiting for me to send a minion at it. Cept I'm freeze mage baby. I got no need for minions to do my dirty work.

His hand was looking thinner then. I had em right where I wanted him. Burn in hand, just needed to bring his health down three more points and next turn it's over. I grabbed a battered Antique Healbot to hit his face, proc the Noble Sacrifice, and then use my Alexstrasza to knock him right down to his shiny golden loafers. Thinking I'm so smart, getting rid of that secret first. Good on me. The secret pops, but then something funny happened. My healbot goes right on through and hits the Pally right in his smirking face.

That's when it hit me. As a shiny golden face that I had never before seen filled my screen, and the damage that would have been dealt to him was dealt to me as well, bringing my life total finally sliding down into the negative, I had to laugh. It's not every day that you get to see your ugly karma smack you right between the eyes. As the last shards of my hero portrait flew out in a golden shower of sparks, I knew then that is was so easy to play a very strong hand badly.

Hello chickens, who may or may not be angry at this time,

I believe a secret is the most disruptive element to tempo, having to play around it all the time. Shouldn't every class have secrets?

It makes sense to me that all classes should have some kind secret, and I believe it would change the meta in a dramatic way. What do you think?

Jeff

Greetings perturbed pullets

First time, long time. I recently got 500 wins with my Mage (my favorite hero) and can finally brandish the Golden Jaina. However a weird thing happened...I started to not play her any more.  Now that I've gone gold any time I play Mage it feels like a waste; it is one less potential win with another hero. Am I alone in this feeling...am I a hollow joyless soul?  I was thinking about ways Blizzard could keep the carrot in front of us gamers post 500 wins.  How about for each additional 100 wins you get a golden card of your choice, using the new Discover mechanic.  On win 600 (and each increment of 100 beyond) three golden cards picked from the ones you already own pop up on screen and you can select the one you want.  I know that would keep me playing Mage.

Hello furious fowl,

On Episode 131, you said you liked the idea of hearing more from Blizzard about stuff that didn't make the cut, and I'd like to respectfully say, I think you're wrong.

If they talk about something that didn't work, it would seem to eliminate the possibility of them "fixing" it and releasing it. For instance, imagine if the "Burn" mechanic you talked about just did it for the next turn, not every turn. That would probably be much easier to balance and more interesting in multiples compared to the eternal burning talked about on the show. Not sure that would actually work or be all that good (why not just increase the power by 1 instead?), but it's an alternative that came to mind when you talked about it. If I can get this idea just when I hear you talking about "Burn", what kind of ideas could actual game designers come up with from similar discussions within Blizzard?

So, just to summarize, I'd rather they don't talk about something that didn't work so they can iterate them into good ideas later on down the road.
