Dear M. de Laszlo

I have heard from my father-in-law[1] that he has explained to you, that owing to an unlucky motor accident I am temporarily damaged in the face, & therefore not in a condition to have my portrait painted by you! I think however, all the traces will have disappeared in 2 or 3 weeks time. In the meantime could we perhaps have a preliminary meeting? It would be very nice if you and

Madame de Laszlo[2] could lunch with us one day. Could you manage to come on Sunday next at 1.30, or else on Tuesday at the same time? I hope very much you can. We are going to Paris on May 2nd till the 12th, that is why I suggest these two alternative days for luncheon.

I understood from Lord Lansdowne that you would have liked to begin the picture [3143] at the end of this month, & I am so sorry this has had to be deferred a little, but I ought to have recovered by May 14th.
