What is the purpose of the text?

The purpose of the news article “Using the Web to Watch Gangs,” by Achieve3000, is to inform the reader about how gang members use the internet. As evidence, the author explains, They use the sites to issue threats to rival gangs. They share intelligence on rival gangs. They also boast about crimes and talk with people across the country” (Achieve3000). Here, the author discloses that gang members threaten rival gangs, share intelligence, brag about crimes, and communicate with people across the country using the internet. In essence, “Using the Web to Watch Gangs” describes multiple ways that gang members use the internet, most of which can lead to them being arrested.
