Profile:
For over a decade, Smt. Kyrsiew Ryngkhlem has passionately pursued organic farming, showcasing resilience and innovation in her solo journey without external guidance. In 2015, she invested her savings and borrowed funds to reclaim a small patch of land (around 700 sq. metres) previously used for coal storage. Undertaking the task of land reclamation, she methodically cleared mine spoils, tilled the soil, and applied lime for neutralization. In 2016, her agricultural experiment with homemade organic manure proved groundbreaking, enabling her to grow and sell vegetables within three years. Smt. Ryngkhlem's story stands as a testament to individual commitment, transforming once-neglected land into a flourishing organic farm, and inspiring her community towards sustainable and innovative farming practices.
Since her venture began, she has not only cultivated various vegetables and trees but has become a significant contributor to sustainable agriculture. Commencing her manure-making initiative on December 31, 2020, she has produced an impressive 7,056 kgs of organic manure to date. Successfully marketing 3,277 kgs of this manure at flexible rates (Rs. 40/kg, Rs. 50/kg, or Rs. 100/kg), she generated an income of Rs. 1,06,140. Going beyond her own farm, Smt. Ryngkhlem has taken on the role of an educator, imparting her knowledge to various community members on the art of manure and bio-pesticide production. Her dedication and expertise were acknowledged when she received a district award on June 29, 2022, recognizing her as one of the best practitioners of organic farming in the Knowledge Sharing Event of Best Practices in East Jaintia Hills District. She has further extended her impact by participating in workshops and events, both within and outside the state of Meghalaya, solidifying her role as a trailblazer in the realm of sustainable and organic agriculture.
