- Guide oral vocabulary development by asking the following questions: What are the four main parts of a plant? What part of the plant holds up the flower? What other plant parts are attached to the plant? Which part of the plant grows in the soil?
- Discuss the four main parts of a plant.
- Have the children use picture clues and answer questions.
- Ask: How are the parts of this plant like the parts of a tree?
- Display flower pots.
- Have the children examine potted plants by gently removing soil so that they could observe the roots.
- Discuss how each part helps the plant.
- Have the children point to the relevant plant part as I name each one.

- Open the book and identify the different parts of the plant.
- Ask: Why are the seeds planted in soil?
- Go back through the book and have volunteers point to and identify the bulbs, roots, flowers, seeds, and leaves on each page.
