The Mahavir Jayanti Celebrations have come and gone! I trust each and everyone had a fun and enjoyable time. Great puja, great performances, great food and a great audience! Who can beat that?
I can not pass this timely opportunity without once again thanking all the sponsors, volunteers, choreographers and coordinators, and all others for helping make this a successful event. A truly deserving round of applause to you all.
We are now into the month of May, and we all know what that means! It is time for our Moms to be in the limelight. It is time to say and show our thanks and appreciation for all they do throughout the year. It is TIME - to celebrate Mother’s Day!

Mahavir Jayanti Celebration
Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated at the HSNC Cultural Hall on Sunday April 20th. As does every year, the turnout is higher than the previous. And this year was no exception. We had a total of 400 people! This is no small feat to manage and cater for, and thus a great testament to the increasing calibre and success of this event that the community, as a whole, produces every year. Congratulations to everyone involved!
It is also worth mentioning that for the first time ever, we held the Puja on stage. Along with side projections, I believe everyone in the audience had a chance to watch and follow the rituals.
Finally, our young participants truly carried the whole celebration! With 55 strong in the Puja and 51 strong in the Program, we could not have asked for anything better!

Mahavir Jayanti Program DVDs
The JSCNC Media team is hard at work on making available the Mahavir Jayanti program DVDs. As you might know, the entire program was recorded on high quality video camera and we strive to prepare edited versions from raw footage for better viewing experience. The entire program will be available in one or two DVD sets. We will also have high resolution pictures available.
Mother’s Day Celebration
JSCNC will be celebrating Mother’s Day at the next monthly meeting on May 18th. Many thanks to Harshabhai and Jyotsnaben Shah for sponsoring this event.
To prepare for the food, Ajaybhai is asking for some help from volunteers. This might be in the form of cooking rice, cutting/peeling vegetables and other similar tasks. To volunteer, or for more information, please contact Ajaybhai at 919-601-2624 by May 11th. A separate email with more details was sent out last week.
Please note that weekly Swadhyaya time and location have changed. New timings:

2014 YJA Convention
When: July 3 - 6, 2014
Where: Crystal Gateway Marriott, Washington, DC
Young Jains of America would like to invite Jain youth between the ages of 14 and 29 to the 2014 YJA Convention: "Young Jains: Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders." Join us in Washington, D.C. from July 3rd-6th at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Attendees will hear from a wide range of speakers, participate in engaging social events and forge everlasting connections!
Supporting our Youth
In last month’s newsletter, we announced that we have a tremendous participation of our very own Jain youths in the YJA. This is quite a feat, and we should take pride in their accomplishments as members and leaders of the YJA. As such, we should support them in any way we can. As stated above, this year, the YJA convention is being held in Washington DC, and they are asking for our help in terms of any contributions we can make towards this event.
We are extremely happy to announce that our community showed an overwhelming support for this endeavour. In addition to the $500 contributed by the Center, we have so far raised $878 from the community at large. Additionally, more of our local families have contributed $502 directly to YJA.
Here’s the kicker: As a sangh, we have raised more money for this than even large centers like Los Angeles! Way to go, people!!
Father’s Day Picnic
For your general information and planning purposes, we would like to announce that Father’s Day Picnic will be on held on June 15th in the Lake Crabtree County Park.
