This guide is not meant to be min-maxing incarnate. There will be passages where bringing certain amounts of items (i.e cooked shrimps) will give you a small advantage, but I have omitted mentioning it for simplicity's sake.
What it's meant to be is an attempt at showing how you can efficiently spend your first 250-300k steps, while at the same time levelling your skills at an equal pace.
THE GUIDE WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY.
During the guide I will be mentioning various places in Arenum (the world in which Walkscape takes place). Some of these places will be unknown to you.
Maps: The community member Falarikae made a fantastic map tool which you can refer to in this case: https://map.walkscape.app/
Videos: I’ve also made a few youtube videos explaining some of the basics of the game that might be helpful. https://www.youtube.com/@TheWalkscapist

“So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, 'That's good!' One less thing.”
Probably the most impactful achievement early on is the one listed below, it's also one of the hardest depending on your fitness level.
For some, walking 30k steps in a day will just be another day at the office, for others it will take some serious preparation and training. The reason for this achievement being important is that it rewards 5 achievement points, which allows you to push for Ring of homesickness very early on (more on this ring below). While this will allow you to save 5-600 steps daily in the beginning, you shouldn’t risk your health achieving it.
In this guide I will also provide a way to get the ring quite early, without having to walk 30k steps in a day.
“Home is where the heart is.”
Ring of homesickness is an incredibly powerful ring. It allows you to, once every 12 hours, instantly teleport back to Kallaheim. This is done from the ability menu (the little blue book, right bottom corner), and in order to get this ability you don’t even have to equip the ring, it just needs to be in your inventory.
In order to unlock the ring, you need 15 achievement points.
By juggling this cooldown and saving steps, while at the same time planning ahead, it will allow you to save a lot of steps daily. Do not leave it in the bank by mistake, walking back from the south of Jarvonia sucks - not that I speak from experience, of course!
Swipe right to visit ‘Helpful Herbert’s Hut’ under ‘Location’ and do the following:
Now it’s time to craft some more basic tools. Hit the plier next to the backpack icon in the bottom, this is the crafting menu. In the crafting menu, do the following:
This will finish the following achievement:
Besides being worth 1 achievement point (abbreviated “ap” from now on), its also worth 100g. Click the little shining card animation at the top of your screen (it will most likely show 2, as you have also levelled up a skill), which will take you to the achievement screen. Hit ‘unlock’ scroll down, claim the 100g and do the following:
It's time to talk about another of the easy achievements: ‘Walk of Shame’
Completing this achievement early on is great, since it rewards an agility chest. This chest has a chance of containing some much needed gold, along with some equipment that might make it easier for us to travel the world of Arenum.
Now the most efficient way to finish it is quite boring though. What you do is make sure you have no gear equipped, no activity selected, and just build up your step bank.
Starting out your step bank can only hold 6000 steps, but at 5308 steps your character level will reach 10, increasing the capacity to 8000 steps. This obviously means that it increases before you hit the 6000 step cap, giving you some leeway. The next increase of capacity (to 11000 steps) is at level 20 (it increases each 10 levels you gain), which requires 20562 steps.
You can finish this achievement at any point you want to, but I generally suggest completing it before moving to Kallaheim.
Next up it's time to level another one of our skills, foraging. The next step can be completed two different ways, depending on how active you want to play. The most efficient one is the first, but the difference isn’t big enough that it's something you should worry about.
Next up we head to the ‘Beach of Woes’ in order to train our fishing skill. Once again there are two paths to take, which differentiate ever so slightly, based on your choice above.
This will unlock the “Under The Sea” achievement, which also includes a fishing chest.
Before heading back, there is one more thing we need to do. Doing some ‘Surface salt mining’ will provide us with some salt crystals, which will be useful for cooking later on. It also has the chance of dropping sea shells, which sells for 5 gold each.
Head to Kallaheim, make sure to open any unopened chests you might have. Navigate to your inventory, and hit the ‘Treasury’ button to the bottom left, and “!” mark will show if you have any.
Finally time to do some shopping, and convert all these materials we have gathered into something more useful.
Before we move on, it's time to finish this achievement. Visit the ‘Frozen Capital Bank’. Looking at the door you will notice the letter ‘g’ hiding in plain sight, touch the area surrounding it a few times, which will trigger the achievement.
It's time to get back into the nitty gritty, equip your bronze hatchet, and make sure all your relevant gear (Herbert gear and any potential extra gear) is equipped. Deposit everything into the bank except for the bread you just made. Equip the bread, and head back to the ‘Disenchanted Forest’.
Back in the ‘Disenchanted Forest’ it’s time to start levelling woodcutting with our brand new hatchet. The hope is that we get some woodcutting chests, and bird nests. Open any woodcutting chests you might get immediately, but do not open the bird nests. But first, check if Herbert has got any materials in stock.
With our bags full of logs (and hopefully bird nests), it’s time to head back to Kallaheim, don’t forget your bread!
Back in Kallaheim it’s time to do some more levelling before we head east. First order of business though, is some inventory cleaning:
Now with our inventory cleaned up a bit, it's time to cut some planks!
Do the following:
“From that moment, we travelled together, East. Always… into the East.”
Now before we continue our journey eastbound, there are a few things we need to do.
Free inventory space is at a premium for this trip, so we need to be a bit picky with our gear. Start of by equipping all your Herbert gear then:
First we need to spend those remaining 31 gold:
Then it’s time to use the materials we brought along.
Access the crafting menu, and craft the following:
Equip the best quality tool crafted of both, and sell the rest. Equipped with our brand new tools and skis, it's time to move on.
Time to level our foraging to level 25, which is required to unlock the ‘glacier foraging’ activity.
Since inventory space is at a premium, we need to clean it out before moving on.
Time to collect some ores.
During your mining efforts in Frostbite Mountains, you might be so lucky to have looted a collectible called “Jarvonian Puzzle”. This will unlock the achievement:
Along with being worth 1 ap, totalling a nice 4 ap from just 1 item. This collectible has a droprate of 1/1000 when mining: copper, tin or iron in Frostbite Mountain, note that mining coal does not have a chance of dropping the item. Wearing the juggling balls increases our chance to 1.05/1000, shaving off a nice ~50 actions.
If you didn’t find the puzzle, fear not, we will be coming back to target grind it later on.
