Wellington Trip Notice 1

We are lifelong learners who aspire to excellence

Dear Parents and Caregivers of Year 8 students.

The first term is fast coming to an end and we thought it would be good time to let you know some details about the Wellington Trip on November 19th-22nd

Our aim of this trip is for children to learn about New Zealand’s culture and identity. As part of this experience the students will be visiting:

The Year 8s will be traveling to Wellington on NZ Rail and the ferry and returning via aeroplane.

To ensure the safety of all children on camp we reserve the right to decline a place to any child who shows that they are unable to self-manage their behaviour and cooperate with others.

The overall price for the trip will be somewhere around $450 per student (based on last year’s cost). This figure is without any fundraising. We will have a more definitive cost in term 3 as we put the final touches on our planning for the trip. In addition, next term the Year 8s will begin our fundraising effort as we want to reduce the cost of the trip by as much as possible.  Many children last year were able to fundraise their entire fare. The main fundraising parts will include:

We need assistance with the fundraising so we are asking for parents who would be interested in being on the fundraising committee to contact Steve at school or via email (see below). Last year people on the fundraising committee helped out with the chocolate fundraiser, bake sales and acquired prizes for the Quiz Night. Active members of the fundraising committee will get first preference when we select parent help for Wellington.

If you have any questions/queries then please feel free to contact Steve at school or via email steve.ladbrook@oaklands.school.nz.

Warm regards

Steve Ladbrook, Lynette O’Connor and Bryan Brown
