Sometimes László shows a certain relatedness in this direction [regarding the grandness and likeness of the portraits of the Polish painter Kasimir Pochwalski], who on the other hand also touches Lenbach and the English rococo-portraitists. In general though, László is less about grandness and more about elegance; he tries to reach the latter through a certain nonchalance, even arrogance, which is often not without grace. Unfortunately we cannot say though, that he has exhibited very brilliantly this time. The ease with which this artist works at times misleads him to a carelessness he should seriously seek to fight, so he is not subject to a premature decline. Precisely his executed paintings are little satisfying this time – as they are not executed enough. He is better with those things that have a deliberately sketchy character, like in the pastel portraits of Alice Barbi [2340], the Hereditary Princess of Meiningen [5101] and the Princess Metternich [110466].
