Android: Netrunner 2019 United States Nisei National Championship Travel Awards

The 2019 US Nationals for Android: Netrunner organizers welcome applications from members of under-represented groups for travel awards. We recognize that travel costs are a major inhibitor for people who wish to attend major tournaments from long distances away. Furthermore, we believe in a diverse and welcoming Netrunner community. To that end, we are offering travel awards that will cover flights to the San Francisco Bay Area for the Netrunner Nationals to be held November 2nd to 3rd.

Eligibility, Criteria, And Requirements

  • Applicants must be a member of a group not well-represented within the Android: Netrunner community, including but not limited to: women, people of color, LGBTQ+, ability/disability, non-binary gender identities. We also invite applications from members of underrepresented and/or marginalized groups that don't fit into the categories listed above.
  • Applicants must live within the United States*
  • Applicants must demonstrate their interest in Netrunner. Examples include participating in online discussions, writing, creating memes, publishing decklists, hosting tournaments, etc.
  • Recipients will be selected based upon their merit and financial needs.

* We apologize to international Netrunners but find this limitation necessary due to the complications and expense of international travel.

Logistics

We will be in contact with travel award recipients immediately after they are selected. Recipients will have their event registration paid for in full. We will reimburse any flight that we deem financially reasonable (e.g. within a hundred or so dollars of the median price on Google Flights) within a two-day range of the event's beginning and end.

We intend to offer as many awards as our funding can support but at least one. If there are leftover funds available that are insufficient to purchase an additional plane ticket, they will be distributed evenly amongst recipients to cover housing, food, and other ancillary costs. While we will likely be unable to completely pay for hotel rooms for recipients, there is a large Netrunner community in the Bay Area and we will gladly put interested recipients in touch with people who are willing to offer housing. Note that the provided housing will likely require using public transit or rideshare services to navigate to and from the gaming venues.
