There is no expectation of privacy for any information stored on this computer or the associated Google account. It is subject to forensic examination by district officials and law enforcement agencies at the discretion of district officials at any time for any reason. Failure to return the computer to the school district upon graduation or withdrawal from the district may result in a request for criminal charges.
The student is responsible for the computer safekeeping while using the computer in school or away. Loss of the computer will require the responsible party to file a report of loss and/or theft with the school's main office and the appropriate law enforcement agency. Any damage to the computer must be reported promptly, in writing, to the school office.
Beginning in 2016, there is no longer any “insurance” or plan for parents to buy as part of the laptop program. Loss of or damage to the computer will require the payment of up to $315 for the repair or replacement, per incident, payable to the Pinckney Community Schools.
In the event of negligence or abuse, you and your student are responsible for the full cost of the Chromebook's repair or replacement, including the management licensing fee. Any incidents of loss or damage to the computer may result in the suspension of the privilege to have full access to the computer, and the student's use of a district-issued computer may be limited to the hours in which school is in session.
The linked chart (on the back of the printed version of this document) shows the costs associated with various potential repairs for the Chromebook. In many cases the part can be replaced for the cost of the part plus a typical $25 or $50 labor fee (no labor fee for a replacement power supply, higher labor fee for replacement of keyboard or logic board). In the case of a total loss of the computer, the cost is $305 plus a $10 fee for enrolling the new computer. Part prices are subject to change based on market pricing. For the current costs for parts and labor please visit the 1:1 laptop information page at the PCS Website found under the parent and student menus.
