Midnight Run (WolfPom AU: Friendship Story)

"So you really are…"

 "A werewolf, I guess."

Gangle kept staring in awe as Pomni's wolf ear flicked as well as her tail. Gangle tilted her masked head slightly at her. Her large black eyes scanned Pomni from her new cleats, spiked accessories, snaggle tooth, and pointed ears.

Pomni looked away shyly and looked back at Gangle for any sign of judgment on her new form. Gangle's eyes widen a bit, and she shows a small smile.

"You look... cool." Gangle softly yet genuinely spoken. She placed her ribbon arms up to her face in amazement.

Pomni's ears perked up, and she smiled with her fang sticking out. Pomni softly chuckled and bashfully scratched her head. She never thought anyone would say she's cool, not in her old life or this life. Now, with this updated form that she found unappealing and foolish, she could feel a small surge of confidence.

"Thanks, Gangle." Pomni chuckled and sighed. Gangle's smile brightened up a bit as she heard her new friend.

"I'm surprised Caine didn't give me a muzzle or other weird features for this adventure." Pomni expressed herself in a slight yet playful growl as she raised her hands.

Gangle giggled at Pomni's wolfy act. Pomni joined in the laughter, and her laugh was a bit more gruff now.

 "You're like a kemonomimi!"

 "A what?"

Gangle enthusiastically described Pomni about her favorite anime trope on kemonomimis. Pomni nodded and listened with genuine curiosity about her explanation. Her tail wagged a bit along the way.

"Ohh! Okay, now I get it!" Pomni sounded with authentic realization and laughter afterward. Pomni replied, "I'm glad to talk to you again and that you think I'm cool, even cooler now that you remember that." Pomni smiled more, showing off her fangs.

Then she realized that and closed her mouth to a slight smile, still grateful. Gangle looked at her again with joy but with an eager and cautious interest, twiddling her ribbon arms.

Pomni noticed Gangle's motions and hummed, then softly asked, "What is it, Gangle?" She positioned herself respectfully and considerately with her hands together, slightly tilting her head.

Gangle continued twiddling her arms, steadily building up courage to speak to Pomni again. Gangle opened up, "So... can you do cool werewolf things now? I just wanted to know, and I hope that doesn't... bother you now that you're like this."

Pomni reassured her companion with a simple smile and gently proclaimed, "Well, it's possible."

Pomni began to open up as well, "You know... I could give you a ride. I recently learned how to run on all fours, and if it's alright with you, I could take you on a test run." Her eyes shone more, and she gestured towards her friend.

Gangle excitedly looked at Pomni and asked quietly, "Really? Could we go run together? Wow..." She looked down in astonishment at Pomni's kindness and offering, returning to her.

Pomni encouragingly nodded and gave a thumbs up. Gangle slowly beamed, and a determination appeared in her eyes.

"Let's do it."

The two friends made their way up a hill with a calm sense of security, two friends hanging out in the middle of the night.

At the top of the mountain, Pomni began to crouch and positioned herself on all fours, letting out a huff to prepare for the long run downhill. She adjusted her spikes, gloves, and hands, forming more like paws to go with the quadrobics.

Gangle carefully backed up to give Pomni space, only knowing her for a few days, and she wasn't sure if she would be okay to be handled. They've only known each other for a few days. But Pomni quickly reassured her friend with a nod, another bark-sounding huff, and a peaceful chuckle.

Gangle slowly climbed on and wrapped herself around Pomni's torso with her ribbon body. She held onto the top of Pomni's head. She got close enough to feel her breathing and the wind in both of their faces.

Pomni crouched further down and took a long, deep breath, a bit shaken but committed to take off. She stared down at the ground of the hill and looked at Gangle.

"Are you ready?"

"Ready...!"

"Here we... go!"

Pomni quickly dashed off with a relentless wolf roar. The patter of her hands soon became fiercer, noisier sprints. Steadily, the pace of her run began to quicken.

She huffed and puffed downhill, and an enrichment of freedom struck her soul. Being a wolf now, more than ever, liberates the anxious woman once inside her.

Meanwhile, Gangle could taste the freeing wind against her mask. Her wrapped ribbons could feel Pomni's footsteps. She felt like she could run herself one day, now with no unexpected harm insight.

For now, Gangle clung on tighter and smiled wider. Being so tight, she loosened her ribbon arm in glee.

Pomni's grunts became joyful barks as Gangle's wide smile burst into laughter. Her laughter grew as she looked down at Pomni and towards the grass rushing past them. She waved swiftly with her arm and eagerly awaited going faster. Her laughter broke down to adorable giggles as Pomni decidedly ran faster.

Pomni lets out a few more barks that turn into a howl of bliss.

Pomni looked towards the shining blue moon, for once, not minding all the ruckus a werewolf could make. The werewolf has made a new friend with whom she can finally share her experience.

Gangle grinned wider with ecstasy in her eyes, feeling her soul glow brighter and evolve. It felt like anything was possible, possible to change and endure.

Now, under the moon's color and light, a clear guidance led them through their midnight run.
