Statement on the 2021 Budget for Immigration and Customs
In light of recent events, last night the President communicated with the leadership of the House and the Senate that he intends to veto any budget which does not drastically increase the budget for the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agency. On this, he had the following to say:
“Whenever the Governor of the State of Dixie opted to stall all state-level involvement in the enforcement of immigration laws, ICE was put under far more intense pressure to carry out their duties in a reasonable manner. This was in addition to current difficulties in the Republic of Fremont as at the state’s inception legislation was adopted to make the region a sanctuary state. If the brave men and women of ICE are going to be expected to act as the sole enforcers of our immigration laws, then they need more resources and more personnel.
I communicated this to the leaders of both parties in both chambers of Congress. I made it very clear that so long as the states refuse to cooperate in enforcing the laws I will only sign a budget which expands ICE’s budget. My job is to faithfully execute the laws of our nation and such a request simply makes that base level duty possible.”
