 What animals are alike?

  1. Introduce the lesson with “The Mitten.”
  2. Ask: What animals are these? How many legs do they have? What kind of covering  do they have? What else can you say about the animals in the story?
  3. Have the children determine in how these animals are alike and different.
  4. Have the children answer the following questions: What animals are these? In what two ways are the animals are alike? In what ways are they different? How can you tell?

  1. Guide oral vocabulary development by asking the following questions: What kind of covering do birds have? (Feathers) What body part helps the bird move? (Wings) Does an insect have more or fewer legs? (More) What else do insects have that helps them move around? (Wings) Which animal lives in the water?   2. Play “What Am I.”
  3. The teacher will select a few cards that shows the whole animals and parts of animals.
  4. The teacher will describe an animal.
  5. Have the children guess what animal it is.
