Neighbour 2 Neighbour Townsville, Saturday June 15th, 2013.
…Learning to love your Neighbour as yourself…
Dear Church Leader,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Neighbour 2 Neighbour 2013 Organising Committee asking for your assistance in promoting the event within your congregation.
Over the last 2 years, with the help of over 30 Churches and Community Service Organisations, we put more than 600 volunteers into over 500 homes and were recognised in 2012 with a Spirit of Townsville Award for our efforts. This year we are hoping to reach even more homes, but for that we need your help.
What is Neighbour 2 Neighbour?
N2N was imagined by a group of pastors with a desire to see Churches and Christian ministries unite for the purpose of demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ in a practical way to the people of Townsville. It is really quite simple; the council supplies a list of those in need and we put teams of volunteers together to provide 3hrs of basic help in the home or yard of those in need. We hope to once again mobilize hundreds of volunteers across the city, to assist the underprivileged in our community.
N2N is endorsed by, and has the full cooperation of the Mayor, Jenny Hill, and the Townsville City Council. Council Staff have been appointed to do the background work for this program and will again supply the names of those homes requiring assistance. Volunteers would undertake jobs of a general household nature, such as dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and cleaning bathrooms or kitchens, and general garden work including lawn mowing.
Your support is Vital
Neighbour 2 Neighbour will be held on Saturday 15th June. Volunteers from churches across the city will be offering their services to help those in need. Your support as a church leader is essential to make this day a success, ensuring that:
How Can You Help?
Register your church.
Include their name in the Church registration details on the web page (or you may wish to be the liaison officer yourself)
These people will be trustworthy, organised, caring members of your Church. Team Leaders will be overseeing a group of 4-5 people. Encourage them to register as Team Leaders on the web page
The names of the team leaders must have your church leadership approval & this must be recorded in the minutes of your church business meeting. This ensures that they are covered by your Church insurance policy
One Day, Becomes Every Day
It is our intention that this not be seen as a once a year event, but rather a step towards raising neighbourly care back into its rightful place in our city. To our great joy we have seen many of the teams from last year continue their contact with the homes they helped.
Caring for others is not about words; it’s about actions.
Neighbour 2 Neighbour has the potential to change the mindset of the people in our city from one of selfishness and isolation to one of generosity and love. This could start with you.
Thank you in anticipation of your support and involvement.
Yours in Christ,
Ps Matthew Bolte
