Pauly, my dearest boy.

When I came to 12 O’C. lunch yesterday, I saw your letter on the table! at first thought it was Henry’s^[1] writing (without my specs, I suppose) – Indeed I was glad to hear from you, for do you ‘realize this’ that since I’ve been here, this letter of yours was the first to reach me from Rugby – – – ! So I had nice little excitement for myself at my small table, where I sit alone, since dear Aunt Eves^[2] left, in reading your nice long letter.

I am v. excited to hear the result of the music competition! this is the day – – I hope all goes well [&?] that the

the fiddler won’t put you out, & that you won’t put him out – I do hope you practised it slowly! The best safe.–guard in view of a musical excitement. Well, I am anxious to hear results of Today.

Good news from Henry – he is working v. hard & has met the Schröders at Baden-Baden. He finds it lonely in Heidelberg. He & [Sandor?] will meet after his trip to Switzerland & come home together.

I try to practise here every day.

Aunt Eves went home on Tuesday, & she & Aunt G.^[3] go to 3 F.J.^[4] today to stay a week –

I see I made a mistake about monies I sent you, but as you say the twice given tip can count on to the hol. Allowance, expect it was quite acceptable coming [early?] by mistake!

Your incidental’s [sic] are always full of little money settlements! as ‘incidentally’! the present request of £3 to be forwarded, & onto this 5/– for the H.M’s present – If you each give a subs: of 6–/– the total amounts to £3.10. You say £3.5. But I suppose I’m write [sic] in thinking you both subscribe?
