IN BRIEF: Cinco de Mayo Fiesta TODAY!

(larger version)

What is Cinco de Mayo?

It is a celebration of the day (May 5, 1862) that Mexican soldiers defended their town of Puebla against a much larger and well-armed French army.  This was the last time any army from another continent invaded the Americas.  Contrary to popular belief, this is not Mexico’s Independence Day, which is September 16.

Although this day has special significance in Mexico, it is most enthusiastically celebrated throughout the Western United States in honor of Mexican heritage and pride.  These celebrations highlight Mexican culture through music, dance, food and drink.

The JHPDA invites you to join us for a fiesta in honor of Cinco de Mayo!

What: Free food, beverages, and piñatas! Food will be provided by R&R Taqueria, voted #1 Mexican restaurant by Zagat.

When: Monday, May 5th, 6:00 – 8:00pm

Where: Preclinical Teaching Building (PCTB) Courtyard/Greenhouse Café
