Studio Inventory, p. 29 (156 rev.)

This study is a rejected version of a study portrait [9855] de László made while he was painting a formal three-quarter length portrait of the sitter [11628] during his visit to Athens in spring 1914. He changed his mind regarding the composition and painted both pictures full face to the viewer rather than in profile.

Verso is a study portrait of the sitter’s husband Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark [7830]. The pictures were destroyed by fire in 1989. For biographical notes on the sitter, see [11628].
