My dear Sir

As I had to go to the Hague I wanted to delay my reply to you until I could see your exhibition.[1]

I found it very good, as expected, from an artistic point of view, but I would have liked it better

if instead of the portraits of the Pope [4509] and Cardinal Rampolla [4511], you had exhibited two large scale portraits of society ladies of a beautiful type. I hope to see you in Paris and then we shall

talk of what will still have to be done next year in this same desistus.

The head of the Princess of Meiningen [5101] is very delicate and modest but the general public does not understand this.
