New Faculty Candidates Presenting Research: The Department of Geosciences hosted two candidates for the open tenure-track position in geochemistry/biogeosciences this week, and will host the final two next week. The schedule for their research presentations is given below. The talks are open to the public and geoscience majors are encouraged to attend. Flyers will be posted around the department on each day.

SGE is Recruiting and Wants You: Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE) is the national honor society for geoscience students. WSU's chapter is completing its spring membership drive and interested students should contact Dr. Rick Ford (Faculty Advisor) by February 12. In order to join SGE, students need a 2.67 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in their geoscience courses, with a minimum of 10 credit hours.The group participates in exciting projects and activities and welcomes your participation.

Applications for Dept. of Geosciences Scholarship Now Being Accepted: If you are a Geoscience major, you are qualified to apply for our departmental-level scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year. Please note that there are two applications you may wish to fill out. A general application for departmental scholarships, & a separate application for the Tanner Scholarship in Geosciences. Full scholarship information and applications can be found on this page. The deadline is Monday, Feb 29th. Both applications are attached.

Summer Internship: The National Science Foundation offers an opportunity to participate in a summer internship program focused on undergraduate research related to fluvial geomorphology. The program, "Introducing Critical Zone Science to Students and Teachers" will take place in June. Please see the attached flyer for full information.

Summer of Applied Geophysical Experience (SAGE): SAGE is a 3-4 week research and education program in exploration geophysics for graduate, undergraduate students, and professionals based in Santa Fe, NM. Stipend and travel support will be automatic if accepted. Please see the attached flyer for full information.

National Parks Program-Mosaics in Science: The National Park Service's ‘Mosaics in Science’ Diversity Internship Program provides college students and recent graduates who are underrepresented in STEM career fields with on-the-ground, science-based work experience related to natural resources in the National Park System. Participants spend 11 weeks working on a STEM project in a national park. Participants receive a stipend. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

NASA Undergraduate Research Program: NASA's Planetary Geology and Geophysics Undergraduate Research Program pairs undergraduates and NASA-funded researchers for 8 weeks during the summer, and is accepting applications for the summer of 2016. Applications are due on February 12, 2016, and require: the online application; 2 letters of recommendation; official transcripts. Please see their website for full information, and feel welcome to email PGGURP@buffalo.edu with any questions. A flyer is also attached.

Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship: This scholarship is available for the students who are enrolled as a full-time sophomore, junior, senior and have earned minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA. The Scholarship Deadline is March 2, 2016. Full information can be found here.

Science Fair Volunteers Needed: Please see the attached flyer for schools that are looking for Science Fair Judges & Helpers. The dates range between February 17 and the 24 and any amount of time that you are able to give is greatly appreciated.
