This is a Chrome app & extension that allows students to record themselves reading and then share that content with their teacher, away from the pressures of reading aloud in the classroom. GT Tips Puzzles teach children to use their own minds to figure out how to solve problems and think in a logical way. As a child looks at various pieces to figure out where it fits or doesn’t fit, he or she is developing the skill of problem solving. Web 2.0 Tools Tes Teacher is a great web tool for teachers to create, engage and assess. You can create and deliver a digital lesson and also create a quiz to assess work and present knowledge. Appy Hour Sock Puppets is a great app to use with your students. You can create videos using puppets, props, scenery and backgrounds to have students retell a story, model appropriate social behavior or explain a math/science concept. Tech for Teachers Google Hangouts bring conversations to life with photos, and even group video calls for FREE. Connect with friends across computers, Android and Apple devices. What’s New Quizlet is a flashcard maker site. You can search millions of study sets or create your own. Improve your grades by studying flashcards, games and more. | Language Arts Blending consonants is a great activity to use with your students when teaching consonant digraphs and different words they can create. Try out Blending Bowl for your students who can segment and blend sound easily. Dog’s Letter Pit is a game that teaches the sounds of each letter and help with beginning spelling skills. Math When working on addition facts have students play the interactive game Marble Math. Students can use this website to practice addition using pictorials. Have students play the interactive game Balloon Pop when working on subtraction. Kids can enjoy studying this set of addition flash cards when reviewing addition. Science When introducing Living and Nonliving show students this video so they see the differences. Have students play the Living Things- Interactive which is a great way for students to identify which items are living and nonliving. After students become familiar with living and nonliving they can review flashcards provided by Quizlet. When discussing Parts of a Plant show students this video over plant parts. Social Studies It’s Election Year, so show your class a read-aloud video on Duck for President to entertain them and help them understand the voting process. Your student will also enjoy Grace for President about a young girl who decides she wants to be the first female president. You may also find great election resources to teach students about voting and elections. |
Web 2.0 Tools Kami is a document app that you can use to share documents via Google Classroom to your class. Your students can also use Kami to complete their worksheets individually or collaboratively. Appy Hour First Grade Math Planet helps kids practice math and build fluency. The math fact drills help kids build fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division, and the mini-activities are a fun way for kids to practice a broad range of first-grade math skills. Tech for Teachers ThingLink is the leading platform for creating interactive images and videos. Be creative! Make your website interactive by adding thinglink images to your website and boost up your your students learning. What’s New is a new program the district is using. In the program teachers will be able to look at district and state assessments scores in one place. Teachers will also be able to make phone calls and keep a safe and secure phone log. | Language Arts Students will be learning about capitalization and punctuation. These interactive activities will give students more practice with adding capital letters and punctuation marks to their sentences. Students can also listen to this catchy song about capitalizing letters to learn capitalization rules. Math In weeks 10 & 11 students will be working on adding and subtracting facts to 20; Duck Von Fly helps students practice their subtraction facts. During weeks 15 & 16 students will learn about skip counting by twos, fives, & tens; the Number Bubble Skip Counting game lets kids choose how they will skip count before playing this fun bubble pop game. Science Students will be learning about magnets on week 11 in which you can introduce the lesson by watching a Dr. Binocs video. After teaching the lesson enjoy an interactive magnet activity with your students. On the website you can also quiz your students knowledge on magnets. Social Studies During weeks 11 and 12 students will be learning about maps and globes. Students can play this fun interactive game that will teach them the parts of a map and locating symbols. Students can also learn more about maps by watching this video of a teacher reading a story about maps.

Web 2.0 Tools Having trouble getting students to see the URL you want them to go to while on the computer. Use the Crafty Text extension in Google to enlarge the URL text into large font. No more straining to see those URL’s on the board. Trying to match a color in a graphic or design in a presentation or flyer. Try using ColorPick Eyedropper. Easily get those color codes for the perfect color match. Appy Hour Students can demonstrate steps to solving a problem or draw out a solution using the ShowMe app. This app not only records the steps being carried out but records the voice of the student explaining his/her product. Turn your students into teachers. :-) Tech for Teachers Online worksheet that are engaging and able to be assigned through Google Classroom, link or test PIN. With Wizer.me teachers create online interactive worksheets or they can use existing community worksheets. These can be used as is or edited and modified. Take your worksheets to the awesome level. What’s New ClassLink is a new tool for teachers and students that acts as a dashboard. Links to our most used websites and programs are in one place and require on one login. This will take the pressure off remembering all those passwords. | Language Arts In week 11, students will be working on Character Attributes. Students can create a Wordle with the attributes they discover. These word clouds can be displayed around the room for all to enjoy and learn from. In week 14, students are working with Story Mapping. ReadWriteThink has an interactive Story Map creator. Student can create their story map and save it to their home drive (H: drive). As students work their way through the story writing process they will work on creating new endings in week 17. ReadWriteThink has an interactive program that works with fairy tales and they can practice the story ending skill online. All of these activities can be saved and used for grades. Math Addition and subtraction within 1,000 is the focus for week 11. Khan Academy has a series of practice for this skill. In week 13, students will be studying subtraction. Kids Math Games site has an interactive activity called Pocket Change to work with money. You will find that these activities can be done individually in centers or the lab and as a whole group activity using the projector. Science In this nine week, students will be studying Properties of Rocks in week 9. ScienceKids and Learner.org both have opportunities for students to learn and review the information learned on the properties of rocks. In week 12, the focus changes to Natural vs manmade resources. This video, Learn Grade 2 - EVS - Man made Resources, will review the material taught in class. Weeks 13 and 14 have students learning about Properties of Physical Matter. This interactive site helps student review the solids, liquids and gases concept. Social Studies From October 3rd through November 4th students will be covering Communities. Students can create a map of their community using the interactive tool found on Harcourt School’s site. They can also use the site Eduplace to use the map that shows different types of communities. Both of these could be used as a group activity using your projector in the room. Voting will be done district wide for all students. A link will be placed on the GPISD website and results will be given out November 9. |
