College Decisions - Deferred, Waitlisted, or Denied?

Many colleges have begun releasing admissions decisions.  While this can bring excitement to students pleased with the decisions they receive, it can also become an anxious time for other students who receive disappointing news.  Fortunately, students who have been deferred, wait listed or denied admission have steps they can take to open up additional opportunities.  Your counselors possess a wealth of information they can share to help you explore your options and develop a plan as you continue with the application process.  Please schedule an appointment to discuss whether you should submit additional information, appeal an admissions decision, consider applying to additional colleges or take any other steps.

If you have been accepted under an Early Decision program, you are obligated to contact all other colleges to which you have applied and withdraw your pending applications.  Adhering to this Early Decision requirement benefits those students who remain in the applicant pool.

For those of you who have been admitted to multiple colleges and are unsure of which one provides the best fit, take advantage of the accepted students’ programs most colleges offer.  Please refer to that college’s website for the most accurate and up-to-date information.  Additionally, please bring a copy of your acceptance letters to the Counseling Center since colleges seldom inform us of their decisions and we use this information to update your file and keep Naviance current.

While the decisions colleges make may be disappointing, they are manageable disappointments.  Please remember that your counselors are here to help.
