Classwork - Assignments

Go Formative

Students will complete their coursework on a digital platform called GoFormative. This platform allows me to check student’s work in real time. In addition, GoFormative gives students an opportunity to ask questions and correct their work. Students will create an account the first week of class. This account is free

Each unit lasts 3 weeks. In GoFormative assignments are organized in the following way:

Evaluations

  1. Students will have to complete a total of 15 GoFormatives per unit. I will randomly choose one each week and enter that grade in PowerSchool.

  1. Students will have a quiz at the end of week 1 and 2, and a unit project at the end of week 3. They will be rescheduled in case of a holiday or a teacher workday.

For example:

Unit 1

1/30-2/3 = Week 1

2/3= Quiz 1

2/6-1/10 = Week 2

1/10 = Quiz 2

2/13- 2/17

2/17 = Unit Project

Therefore, you will see six grades per unit in PowerSchool:

  1. Coursework 1 (Practice)
  2. Coursework 2 (Practice)
  3. Coursework 3 (Practice)
  4. Quiz 1 (Practice)
  5. Quiz 2 (Practice)
  6. End-of-Unit Project (Performance)

End-of-unit projects

Students will complete a project at the end of each unit.

Grading

Ashley High School grading criteria will be used for this course.

60% Practice (this includes the final exam grade)

40% Practice

Attendance and tardiness

Attendance is a vital component of a student's success. I encourage all students to be in class on time every day.  If a student is late, they will have an “excuse tardy” in PowerSchool. Please refer to AHS new attendance policy for multiple tardies and absences.

If you get more than 10 absences, you failed the class, even if you have an A in the class.

Use of phone

Under no circumstances are students allowed to use their phones in class. No Exceptions. If the student is using their phone, I will take the phone and place it on my desk.

Food

According to NHCS policy, students are not allowed to eat in class.

Dress code

Students are expected to follow the Student Dress Code.

Communication

Announcements and reminders will be sent via Canvas.

Netiquette

Students are expected to follow netiquette guidelines when they email me. This includes addressing me respectfully, a clear description of their question, and their signature. If the student did not follow these instructions, they will get the following automated email:

Dear student,

Thank you for contacting me.

Unfortunately, your email does not follow netiquette guidelines

Please re-write it and send it back to me.

Example of an appropriate email:

Dear Profe Jones/Good morning Profe Jones/Good afternoon Profe Jones,

I am writing regarding my grades…

Best,

John Smith
