Creating a Timeline of Mayan History
The major events of Mayan history can be put into a timeline. The years are labeled. Add the events and the specific year to the boxes. Draw a line from each box to the area of the timeline that matches. Add a title to the timeline.
1000 BCE Maya villages spread north into the Central Region rainforest
800 BCE Maya are using hieroglyphic writing
400 BCE The Mayan calendar is in use
200 CE The Maya begin to build cities
500 CE The city of Tikal is under construction
615 CE Pakal becomes king of Palenque
900 CE Tikal is abandoned
1224 CE Chichen Itza is abandoned
1517 CE Spanish explorers arrive
1541 CE Spain conquers the Mayan civilization
