Facts About the November 2024 PI Levy
Updated automatically every 5 minutes

The Kenston Board of Education has placed a 1-mill, five-year, Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy on the November 5, 2024 ballot for the public’s consideration. If approved, the levy would generate funds that would be used toward general permanent improvements. The levy would provide a dedicated revenue source for the maintenance of buildings, grounds, transportation, technology, and other projects with a lifespan of five years or more.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a Permanent Improvement, or “PI” Levy?
A PI levy generates funds to be used solely for capital improvement projects, maintenance, and repairs of school property and facilities, and to update or replace items that have a lifespan of five years or more. This includes heating and air conditioning systems, roofs, and purchases of vehicles and technology equipment. PI funds cannot be used for salaries, benefits, or other regular day-to-day expenses.

Do other districts have a Permanent Improvement, or “PI” Levy?
Approximately 85% of districts in Ohio have some PI or maintenance-type levy as a source of funding.

What impact would levy funds have on District finances?
Traditionally around $575,000 is being taken annually from the general operating budget to pay for necessary improvements and equipment replacements. PI levy funds would be used to offset these costs to allow for these funds to remain in the operating budget to support the instructional program.

How long would the PI levy be in effect if approved?
In order to continue, a PI levy would need to be renewed every five years.

How much would the PI levy cost homeowners?
Homeowners would be taxed approximately $35.00 annually or $2.92 per month for every $100,000 of assessed valuation, as determined by the Geauga County Auditor.

What happens if the levy does not pass?
If the levy does not pass, an operating levy would be required sooner.
