Course Description

The objective of this course is so that students can incorporate into conversation elements of the Spanish linguistic system that they have acquired. In this manner, they can communicate with greater fluency in their social and academic life.

Course Evaluation

Following UB policy, students need a minimum of 75% of attendance to be in good standing for the final exam. Sliding the ID card is the only way to track record of attendance. Classes missed for national holidays will not be recovered. Students are expected to do close readings, participate in class, and do one oral presentation in groups. During the semester, students will write a short position paper. The requirements also include a midterm and a final exam. In addition to this, each student will be expected to make a significant contribution to the classroom dialogue.

•        Participation & Attendance 20 %

•        Presentation of assignments 40 %

•        Midterm 15 %

•        Final Exam (presentation) 25 %

In agreement with the policies of the University of Belgrano the student can only have a 25% absence rate. The percentage of attendance that is required in order to take the final exam is 75%. Any trip or excursion that is not planned in the calendar is part of the 25% absence.

Presentation of material. Present yourself and tell the class about yourself: likes, desires, and a brief biography.

Week 2

Eating habits. Food vocabulary (differences  in the varieties of Spanish)

Week 3

Restaurants. Ethnic foods. Culinary options for all likes. The menu.

Week 4

Excursions: cultural offering of Buenos Aires. Express likes and preferences.

Week 5

Organize a trip in Argentina. Make plans and organize visits.

Week 6

How are Argentines? Myths and stereotypes.


Week 7

Important dates in Argentina. Brief overview of historical events.

Week 8

Argentine inventions. Comparisons: before and after.

Week 9

Mid-term.

Week 10

Anecdotes. Tell and express reactions and comments. Tell stories in the past.

Week 11

Legends. More stories in the past.

Week 12

Modes of communication. Vocabulary. News: distinct types and styles.

Week 13

News: stories and commentaries. Express opinions, agreement, disagreement. Current world reality in its distinct aspects.

Week 14

Hypothetical situations. Group resolution of problems.

Week 15

Final exam (oral). Turn in grades.
