Organisation Instruction Document
Your university or school may already have an organisation setup. If so, contact the administrators of your organisation and ask them to invite you to be an administrator too.
If you would like to create a new organisation, please follow the instructions below. If you are past this point, skip on further to learn how to administer your organisation for inviting more administrators, setting up groups, projects and inviting students.
On the Pasture.io SmartFarm webpage, click the orange link “Create new…”
Next, click on “Learning Organisation”
If you are not already signed in, you will be directed to a page where you can either sign in or sign up.
Once you are signed in, you will be directed to a page with the following, where you can type in your organisation’s name and create the organisation with
The administration of a Pasture.io SmartFarm organisation, allows administrators to invite multiple students to the one project and to view each of the students projects for assessing.
The organisational structure is hierarchical in the following order:
The Dashboard is the first page that you will land on within the Organisation’s admin.
On this page you can make new groups and add new administrators.
To add a new administrator use the form at the bottom of the Administrators box below. Just enter the new Administrator's name and email and click the green "+" button. The new administrator will be instantly informed of this action via email.
A group is also known as a unit in the university "unit system".
To add a new group use the form at the bottom of the Groups box below. Just enter the new group name and click the green "+" button.
A project is also known as an assessment or assignment.
To add a new Project select a group from the Groups box and click the green "Add a new Project" button.
This will open a dialog where you can change the group that the project is assigned to, select the base farm and see a brief blurb on their operations, lock the project so students can’t prematurely access by setting a start date and lastly naming the project.
When you submit the form you will be directed to the project page where you can add students.
The projects page will become available once you have created your first group. This is because projects are a sub level to groups.
To add a new Project from the project page, select a group from the form at the bottom left, name the project and click the green "+" button.
You can now edit the project where you can select the base farm, start date and other project information.
Once finished editing the project, click "Update Project" and add your students. Note that it is always safest to click Update Project when you make a change.
To add a new student, use the form at the bottom of the Students box. Just enter the new Student's name and email and click the green and white "+" button.
The new student will be instantly informed of this action via email where they will receive their login details, password and brief instruction for accessing the project.
Make sure you have set the “Starts On” date to the appropriate date, this will block the student from creating their farm prematurely. WARNING... This is also true of you the administrator who can prematurely create a student’s farm by clicking on the green arrow “>” to the right of the student’s details. Keep in mind you have the ability to override the starts on date by doing so.
Once the student has created their farm, you can access it by clicking on the green arrow “>”.
It may be wise for you to add yourself as a student so you can compare how well you can make grazing decisions and to help work through with the students.
To remove a student from the project, deselect them from the students list by clicking on the green and white tick ✅ and click on Update Project button.
You can import a batch of students via the CSV import function, which you can access via clicking on the "Import Students" button at the bottom of the Students box. The students will all be sent an email alerting them that they have been invited to join the project. This is much the same logic, as when inviting students on an individual basis as above.
If you require assistance, have any questions or just want to leave feedback, then please do so through the orange in-app messenger found at the bottom right of the screen.
