YORK CURLING CLUB - RULE OF TWO POLICY

PREAMBLE

The Rule of Two means that a coach is never alone or out of sight with a child.

Two NCCP Trained or certified coaches should always be present with an athlete, especially a minor athlete, when in a potentially vulnerable situation such as in a locker room or a meeting room.  All one-on-one interactions between a coach and an athlete must take place within earshot and in view of the second coach except for medical emergencies.

One of the coaches should also be of the same gender as the athletes.

Should there be a circumstance where a second screened and NCCP trained or certified coach is not available – the following may be acceptable:

The following terms have these meanings in this Policy:

NCCP:        National Coaching Certification Program

PURPOSE

To protect minor athletes and coaches in potentially vulnerable situations by ensuring more than one adult is present.

POLICY

  1. The Rule of Two Policy will apply to all personnel working on behalf of York Curling Club including:
  1. Coaches
  2. Officials
  3. Employees/Contractors of York Curling Club
  4. Board Members of York Curling Club

It is the York Curling Club’s policy that:

  1. All athlete meetings will be conducted in an open and observable environment
  2. A Coach, Official, Employee/Contractor or Board Member will never be alone with a minor athlete.
  3. Coaches, Officials, Employees/Contractors and Board Members, self-identify situations that may put them or their athletes in a vulnerable situation and consider ways to avoid or alter the environment.
  4. Any concerns a parent may have about a child’s safety or interaction with another participant, Coach, Official, Employee/Contractors or Board Member is addressed as per the York Curling Club’s policies.
