Privacy Policy — Comments Exporter for YouTube

Last updated: 2026-05-20

Summary

Comments Exporter for YouTube is built to run entirely on your device. The developer does not collect, receive, store, or sell any of your data.

What the extension stores

The following are saved only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own device, and are never transmitted to the developer or any third party:

  • Your YouTube Data API key
  • Interface language preference
  • Light/dark theme preference
  • Export filename template
  • Split-file size setting

You can remove all of it at any time by clearing the extension's storage or uninstalling the extension.

Network activity

The extension makes network requests to one destination only: the official YouTube Data API at https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/. These requests fetch the public comments of the video you choose, using the API key you provide.

There are:

  • No analytics or telemetry
  • No tracking or advertising
  • No third-party servers
  • No transmission of your data to the developer

Comment data

Comments retrieved from the YouTube Data API are processed locally in your browser and written to CSV/JSON files that you download to your device. The developer never receives this data.

Permissions

  • storage — to save your settings locally (see above).
  • activeTab — to read the active tab's URL when you open the popup, in order to auto-detect the YouTube video ID. No other tab data is accessed.
  • Content script on youtube.com — reports only the current video ID to the popup on request.
