Tome Techfolio Competition
Instructions to Compete
Individual Event | Limit 2 entries per chapter |
Students will create a digital Techfolio including up to 25 of the activities listed in this competition description.
Anchor Standards:
Any digital techfolio program may be used. Example techfolios could be a video, website, or online presentation (like BrainShark). The finished product will need to be in a format that can be linked to a public or shared URL.
Judging
Submission limitations:
Each chapter is allowed to submit 2 individual entries.
Method of Submission:
Advisers will submit entries through the online Canvas Adviser Group. Directions will be emailed to paid chapter advisers prior to the deadline.
All entries must be submitted by:
No later than February 1 - Entries must be submitted by the Chapter Advisor -- Individual competition, only 2 entries per chapter (4-5), (6-8) and (9-12)
Digital Scavenger Hunt Items
1. Download an ebook or audiobook from your school or public library
2. Open a gmail account.
3. Place an out book on hold or submit a wish for a new book in your school or public library.
4. Find a blog about a book you like and comment on the blog.
5. Try out a book-focused site like GoodReads, LibraryThing or Shelfari.
6. Ask your librarian to recommend a nonfiction book on an area of technology that interests you.
7. Tweet to @tomesociety with the #favbook16 the title and author of your favorite book you have read this year.
8. Add something to an article on Wikipedia.
9. Many young adult authors have a Twitter/Facebook/Instagram accounts. Like or Follow one of your favorite teen authors.
10. Many young adult authors welcome emails from their readers. Send one of your favorite authors an email message about a book you love.
11. Redesign the cover of one of your favorite books with a picture editing tool like picmonkey
12. Create an avatar on Yahoo! Avatars.
13. Download a newspaper article from the day you were born from an electronic database.
14. Search in a biography database for an article about our favorite musician or author.
15. Find a youtube video about learning how to use a new free website tool or software.
16. Start a Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, or Flickr account.
17. Follow @TomeSociety on Twitter or Instagram.
18. Nominate a book for the Tome “It” book list for next year.
DOUBLE-Points Items
19. Create a book trailer for your favorite book. Check out YouTube for ideas. Use Animoto for easy video creation. Get inspiration and guidelines from the Tome Book Trailer Competition.
20. Create a Video Book Print about the 5 most impactful books in your life. Get inspiration and guidelines from the Tome Book Print Competition.
21. Use piktochart to create an infographic on a topic that is important to you. Get inspiration and guidelines from the Tome Infographic Competition.
22. Create a playlist soundtrack for your favorite book.
23. Set up a podcast for a group or club you belong to. (Click the link to check out YALSA’s podcasts!)
24. Contribute a guest blog recommending favorite book for Tome Society. Email your blog post to tomesociety@gmail.com with the subject “Guest Blog Entry”. Get inspiration and guidelines from the Tome Blog Book Review Competition.
25. Create a YouTube or Animoto video about your school library.
Do one or all 25! Create an online presentation, linked PDF flyer, website, or video (post to YouTube and submit the link) with evidence (i.e. screenshots) for everything you have done in the scavenger hunt The student who does the most above items with the most creative digital representation will win.
