This is an unofficial guide and is not associated with the
HKIA Wiki, the HKIA discord server or anything else or anyone official to do with HKIA. I’ve included the HKIA wiki links for convenience as I visit them quite a lot and I thought it would be handy to have them all in one place. I really admire the folks who made the wiki as they’ve made such an amazing resource for the community that it needs to be shouted from the rooftops! Also Images used in the checklists are from the wiki itself.

I’d like to say a special thank you to
The
HKIA Wiki, for being so helpful, I honestly couldn’t play the game without it.
Fluff’isle for answering my most confusing questions about the game and being so amazing!

Luna for being kind and showing me around their flowers on their island and more!
Rowan for giving me Red
Penstemums and pollen puffs for my greenhouse!

Kiameg for gifting me a bunch of pollen puffs and helping me get the golden crown!
Jjg for trading flowers with me and being so lovely!

There will most likely be spelling and grammar mistakes for which I’m sorry for.

This guide is made in mind to keep things simple, the way I approach things in this guide might not be the most optimised way. I’ve broken everything down into steps and checklists to help take some of the stress away when you’re first starting to get into gardening.

HKIA Flowers Step by Step Guide

So you’ve decided you want to start shiny hunting- uh I mean growing shiny unique flowers in Hello Kitty Island Adventure? Does the thought of growing flowers in the game have you sweating and stressing? Well wipe off that sweat and take a breather because this guide is going to make all the steps involved easy to understand for newbies and experts alike!

Starting out

Requirements and a step by step guide on how to get started

Step 1:  Unlock the Watering Can with My Melody, Meet Wish me mell and gain access to the Merry Meadow.

Click the links above to find out what you need to do exactly to unlock both. If you need a hand with anything give me a shout!

Step 2: Gather
Seeds and discover what your wildflower is by planting a seed in the Meadow
Your wildflower will be a Bellbutton, Dandelily, Penstemum or Tulias. Plant multiple seeds to get more default colours of your wildflower. Your wildflower will have 3 default colours that you can obtain.

Step 3: Level up Wish me mell to lvl 3,5 & 7 to obtain Mystery Capsules
Open the mystery capsules up for a chance to obtain new Bellbutton, Dandelily, Penstemum or Tulias flower seeds in colours and flower types you don’t already have.

Step 3.A: Complete the Green Thumbs Quest. Then Level up Wish me mell to lvl 8 and unlock the Composter through the Mulch Be Well quest
pen the mystery

Step 4: Lvl up Wish me mell to lvl 10 for the Dig it up quest then continue to Level up Wish me mell to lvl 12 to get the giant seed from the Care Packages Quest
Make sure you have the Merry Meadow Plaza unlocked and have completed the Mulch be well quest to continue on without any issues! If you’re waiting to lvl up Wish me mell go to step 5 in the meantime.

Step 5: Get the rest of the giant seeds and continue to unlock the whole of the Merry Meadow
Click the link above to go to my video guide all about getting the giant seeds easily

Step 6: Complete the Petal Puzzle Quest & Beyond The Blooming Door quest to unlock the Crane Craze Mini-Game in order to obtain more mystery capsules
Click the Petal Puzzle Quest link for a video guide to help with the puzzles and such. Open the mystery capsules to get anything you’re missing flower wise.

Getting all the default colours + More

Step 7: Get all the default colours for
Bellbutton, Dandelily, Penstemum and Tulias Then head over to the basic flower colours checklist to start marking off which flowers you have!

You’ll need to make a copy first of it in order to edit it.

Step 7.A: Wondering how you should lay your flowers out?
There are a bunch of ways to lay your flowers out, I say try them all and see what works for you. Or if you’re getting overwhelmed with it all just go for the checkerboard pattern for now. You need to have some plots empty for new colours to show up but at the same time you need the flowers to be sort of touching one another. You can make it smaller or bigger depending on what you want to do! If you find it’s not working for you try another layout.
The wiki recommends not using the checkerboard layout but it has worked well for me. I would encourage you though to go and take a look at the example layouts on the wiki and pick one for yourself!

Head over to the first sheet of the basic flower colours checklist to learn how to mix all sorts of colours. Make sure to dig up any duplicate flowers so there’s space for new ones to grow and keep at least 2 of each for later.

Unlocks the greenhouse!

What is the Greenhouse?

If you’re wondering why the Greenhouse is so magical and amazing, well look no further!

  • 100% spawn rate
  • Flowers don’t need fertiliser but you can fertilise them if you want default patterns
  • Event Flowers are allowed to grow all year round
  • Flowers are not region locked meaning you can plant any flowers next to each other that you can’t normally.

How to get more plots in the Greenhouse?

There's a little sign out of the front of the greenhouse that you can use to increase the amount of plots available to you currently.

There are 5 upgrades available to you and the cost for upgrading goes up each time. In total to max out the Greenhouse you will need 6000 fertiliser, 4950 Pollen Puffs and 640 Worm tails.

Event Flowers

Event flowers work a bit differently to normal flowers. They have special patterns that can be transferred to other flowers! One downside is that they can only spawn on the island during specific dates, unless they are planted in the Greenhouse then they can spawn all year round!

Step 1: Here’s the list of flowers you should have right now before continuing on Ombre wise! (if you only have some of them at the moment you can go ahead and start the process off for the ones you have!) Here’s a link to check them off yourself!

  • Magenta and White Ombre Anemone

Step 2: Using these colours above we are going to transfer their colour to another flower that doesn’t already have that colour! We need to do this in order to continue making more colours with the colours we already have.
Step 3: Using a new layout to transfer new colours to flowers! In order to do this we’re going to introduce another layout pattern called a merry go round. Basically one flower in the middle becomes an idol, while there are a bunch of other flowers circling the one flower in the middle! I guess they want their autograph or something? We’re trying to transfer Red to a White Bellbutton from a Red and White Ombre Tulia below in the example.

Getting the rest of the basic colours

Time for my favourite end of the colour palette to come through!

By now you should have a lot of the colours across all the different flower types but we’re still missing some of the same colours from across the board or garden in this case! Or “well” because it’s a garden… I’ll see myself out.

Step 1: Get the rest of the following colours for all your flowers. You most likely now already know how to get the rest of the colours but I’ll go through it using the Bellbuttons as an example! You’ll just need to repeat the process for the other flowers you want.

Double Patterns

So you’ve got the default patterns for the flowers but now you’re wanting something more unique? Welcome to the world of double patterns, the possibilities for combinations are almost endless. There are a LOT of colours you can get here.

Now I wouldn’t recommend collecting them all  as that’s a very BIG CHALLENGE (
badum tss) just get some that you really like. If you don’t believe me have a look at all the checklists I made here: 🌸Double Pattern Flowers Checklists

Ombre

White and Red Ombre
(This is different to colour 1 as the primary and the secondary colour are switched)

Transferring A Default Pattern To Another Flower That Doesn’t Have That Pattern As A Default

Use the merry go round layout with a patterned flower of your choosing in the middle and the other flowers around it should be the same colour as the one in the middle. In this example we are trying to transfer the Speckled pattern from the Eggwort to the Bellbuttons. So we are using a WHITE and Warm Pink Speckled Eggwort and then we are using the regular WHITE Bellbuttons. What is important here is that the flowers around the middle flower need to be the same primary colour as the one in the middle. I’ve also included a handy table of all current compatible non default and the normal default patterns for each flower type.
