APIAL Summer and Elementary League Volleyball Rules

3-4th Grade

1. Volley-lite balls will be used.
2. Played best out of 3 games
3. 15 point games (no cap) must win by 2

1. 15 point deciding game

4. Include net serve (serve can hit net: not antennae)
5. 2 time-outs per game (1 minute each)         

1. Additional time out for deciding game 3

6. Players cannot wear jewelry. Any religious jewelry must be taped to the body under the uniform.
7. A distinct contact must be made. No catching, throwing, or holding the ball.

1. Contact will be judged liberally by officials. If an attempt is made and the ball is kept in play it is the officials judgment call to allow play to continue in order to facilitate improved game play.

8. Players will be allowed 2 attempts to successfully serve.

1. The first serve must be from the modified serving line 7’ in front of the back line.
2. The second serve can be served from as close as the 10’ attack line.

1. After the second serve is unsuccessful: the opposing team is awarded a side out point.

9. Player may only serve for 3 consecutive points.
10. Warm-ups will be 5 minutes per team on the net: 2 minute serve.
11. 3 Minutes between games
12. The official book will list players by serving order (ex. Start game with the first server in the right front position during the serve receive and is listed as the first server)
13. Each player shall rotate the full team throughout the game.

1. Position 3 will rotate out to the bench and position 4 will rotate into the game.

14. Coin flip to determine the serve
15. No yelling or stomping during the serve.
