Deadlines and Schedule:

April 18

Opus Registration for 2024 ACDA Voices United Children’s Honors Chorus opens. Directors may begin registering singers via OpusEvent.com.

May 20

Online application form, two audition uploads, and a $10 non-refundable audition fee per student DUE. Sponsoring Directors will register their singers via OpusEvent.com.

Parents will need to submit the Sponsoring Director Form to their teacher/director so that directors can register on OpusEvent.com.

May 28

Notification of acceptance into the 2024 ACDA Voices United Children’s Honor Chorus sent by email to singers and sponsoring directors via Opus.   

June 14

Registration fee of $100 per accepted participant (payment link will be sent through email via Opus). Once payment and final registration is received, your music will be sent in the mail.

Practice track files will be available for download. Instructions to access learning tracks will also be in music folders.

August 2

Choristers and their chaperones arrive, with music in hand, at the Hylton Performing Arts Center for registration from 8:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Rehearsal is from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Music should be memorized fully and prepared according to instructions in the packet and the practice tracks.

August 3

Rehearsal from 9:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., followed by a 4:00 p.m. performance at George Mason University Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, VA. The concert will last approximately 90 minutes, and the Children’s Honor Chorus will combine with the Community Chorus (high school through adults) to close the concert.

Audition Information:

Directors should only nominate students who are strong in all of the following categories:

1) music reading skills

2) tone quality

3) social skills

4) willingness to work with peers and adults

5) aptitude for success with long rehearsals.

Instructions for Preparing the Audition Recording

Each applicant will be responsible for submitting 2 recordings per application:

1) Major Scale: Sing an unaccompanied major scale using either solfege syllables or numbers, ascending and descending. Select from the starting pitch below according to the voice part preference. Starting pitch MUST be heard on the recording.

Soprano 1: F major

Soprano 2: Eb major

Alto 1: C major

Alto 2: Bb major

2) America” (“My Country, ‘tis of Thee”): Starting on the pitches listed below, sing the first verse unaccompanied. Starting pitch MUST be heard on the recording. ACCOMPANIED SINGERS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Soprano 1: F major

Soprano 2: Eb major

Alto 1: C major

***Audition recordings must be entered into Opus by Sponsoring Directors. ***

Online Submission Information

Sponsoring Directors are responsible for registering their singers online. Directors are responsible for having parents/guardians complete the Sponsoring Director Form. You will keep this form for yourself. Directors will then register their singers on OpusEvent.com. If you are new to Opus, please follow this Google Doc for a step by step guide on how to register your singers, how to pay the $10 audition fee, and how to upload audition recordings.
