The following rules apply to the organization of the event "Scootentole Endurance Challenge" held on 8-9 Jun, 2018 by the Association Scootentole on the track Château-Gaillard.

General rules for all categories.
Type machine: old scooters, with gear box, stock or modified for race. It must have a metal body, single piece or not. Are allowed all brands of classic scooters as long as they meet the technical rules.
For uni-body or tubular frames, it should not present any structural damage or corrosion. This is especially important at the engine and suspension anchor points. All modification made to the frame (as cuttings and welding) are under riders responsibility. Nevertheless, if any modification is judged as dangerous or not proper by technical inspection team, the scooter won’t be allowed on the track.
The fork can be from the model or not. It must be in good working order, must be stiff enough, must not have excessive play (wheel/fork and fork/frame), and must have functional rotating stops.
The choice is yours, there is no restriction. It must be in proper condition and must be judged by the inspection team as safe for track use. Anchor points must not be weak.
The scooter must have two independent and functional brakes. One for the front wheel and one for the rear. Drum or disc technologies are left to your consideration. Efficiency will be tested and must be approved by inspection team as safe for track use. All brake elements must be in a perfect operational condition. No leaks will be allowed on hydraulic systems.
Sizes and type of tires are defined for each category. Must not show any kind of damage or abnormal wear. The use of products to modify tire property is totally forbidden as well as non-factory cuts. Tire pressure must be sufficient for safe driving on track. The use of heating blankets is forbidden.
All categories
Tank type and capacity must be factory style. Filler cap must not be able to open in case of a crash. Gas must be pump gas only. No gas additives (other than 2 stroke oil) are allowed (Octane booster, Nitrus Oxyde, etc.).
OPEN Category (LP1, SP1)
Tank type and capacity are free. However, the construction must be sufficiently strong in the event of a fall. It must not present any leak or crack. The anchor points must ensure a perfect hold. The filler cap is free.
Note: The race officials and technical inspection team has the right to forbid or ban a tank that doesn’t meet the safety requirements either before or during the race (Significantly damaged after a fall or other evidence of leakage, anchor damaged or poorly designed).
Type 2-stroke (2T), mono or multi-cylinder, air-cooled or liquid depending on the categories.
All categories:
The engine casings must be original to the scooter, same family type, or modern upgraded production. Top end can be original or not, following the capacity and power limits or each category.
For security reasons, engine casings, gearboxes, top ends and cooling systems must be correctly sealed: no leaky engines (or vehicle) will pass inspection (oil, gas, coolant, brake fluid…).
The use of screws loss safeguard - grooved for retaining wire is mandatory. Any machine that will not be equipped will be refused.
Number, type and size of carb are free, in the limits defined in each category. No leaks will be allowed. Carburetors must be equipped with a catch can.
Intake

The type of ignition is entirely left to your choice.
The lights can be operate by the flywheel, or by an additional battery without any cracks, visible damage, leak….
In case of battery operated light, the power source must be well fixed on the chassis, without any cracks, visible damage, leak…

The gearbox type must be original to the engine block. Gear ratios are left to your choice, depending on categories.
Exhaust type and numbers are left to your choice, depending on categories. Exhaust linkages to frame or engine and exhaust must be mechanically resistant enough not to fall apart on the track. The exhaust piping must not show any leakage.
The exhaust system must not exceed 102 dB. Measures will be done static with measuring device at a distance of 50cm and with a 45° angle (FFM requirements). The expansion chamber mufflers will require noise absorbing material as they should.
Any scooter which doesn’t meet these rules can be refused access to the track.
● All sharp angles or dangerous edges or features must be protected.
● Handlebar tube edges must not be opened.
● All dangerous moving parts (as flywheel) must be well protected.
● All accessories not required for track use must be removed: luggage carrier, hubcaps, mirrors…
● All brittle elements such as glass lights, blinkers or other elements that debris could damage tires must be covered with tape.
IMPORTANT : All scooters must be equipped with an emergency cut off (key, push button or other) functional and easily identifiable. |
● Helmet with European homologation, Full helmet with visor only, in good condition.
● Motorcycle leather gloves
● Motorcycle boots or at least high trong leather shoes
● Leather motorcycle close, one piece or two pieces linked. With knee and shoulder protections.
● Back protection shield with European homologation.
IMPORTANT : We insist, all riders no matter the category, must wear proper equipment for riding/racing on track. |
Before starting, for better understanding:
Small frame: Are considered as small frames, all frames in the following families:
● Scooter Piaggio : V5A, V8A, V100, PL170, Primavera, PK (50, 80, 125), 50SS et 90SS.
● Scooter Innocenti : Lui /Vega / Luna / Cometa, J50 et J125.
Large frame: Are considered as large frames all frames :
● All frames that are not listed as small frames.
This category is for classic scooter enthusiasts that wish to access the race world on a budget.
This is a formula for “everyday scooters” where amusement and fair play are pillars. Aggressive comportments will be sanctioned.
Scooters allowed in this « Small Promotion » must meet general rules requirements. They must be “small frames” and must look as close as possible as original.
Original or very close to original.
● Fork : Must be original type of the scooter. For vespa, if not original, fork must be a Piaggio/Vespa one arm (right or left side)
● Brake caliper (if disc) : only are allowed Piaggio, LML and Grimeca brands. For Lambretta, a simple conversion kit is accepted (validation required from organization)
● No body parts other than original material are accepted
● Maximum rim size is 10”
● Are mandatory:
○ Top and bottom parts for steel handlebar. Or aluminum body handlebar as PX, PK-XL2, T5, etc
○ Side panels
○ Front fender (aftermarket tiny mudguard tolerated)
○ Horn cover
○ Seat
● Reinforcement bar accepted
○ If you have strengthening bar, for greater safety in case of accident, a rigid plate must be installed in addition between bar and frame (4 anchor points minimum)
● Fuel tank must be placed at the original location (under the seat for Vespa and Lambretta)
● Only one functional rear brake pedal at its original location.
● Cuttings on chassis are no longer accepted.
Tires
Tire choice is up to you.
Plug-and-play spirit
● No other than original style casings accepted
○ Piaggio, LML, Lambretta, Serveta, Motovespa, etc
● Original number of gears (4 speed gearbox swap is accepted on a 3 speed model)
● Engine displacement must be between 75cc and 140cc
● All original parts from Piaggio / LML / Innocenti are accepted
● Liquid cooled are not accepted
● Aftermarket cast iron top end kits accepted if sold for the model.
● No exotic top end swap accepted (no Rotax for example)
● Cylinder, piston and head must come from the same aftermarket kit. I top end kit does not sell with a head; original head (reworked if necessary) must be used.
● No split exhaust port.
● No spacer under or over cylinder.
● No optimized flow crankshaft (aka « lipped crankshaft », with rounded edges)
● Stroke
○ Vespa: 43mm or 51mm depending on the top end
○ Lambretta: 44mm or 48mm depending on the top end
● Port matching between casings and cylinder accepted.
● Any type, maximum size 24mm
● Left to your choice (rotating or reed valve)
● Ignition type is left to your choice.
● Primary gear ratio is left to your choice.
● Gearbox ratios are left to your choice.
● Number or gears must be original to the engine type.
● No modification allowed on the exhaust volume or shape.
● Modification of the muffler attachment are allowed to avoid scraping.
● The exhaust pipe must be chosen in the following list :
Original/banana/serpentine « left hand »
■ Polini, Proma, Giannelli, Leovinci, Pinasco, Sito
■ "Type origine" (Piaggio and refabrication)

This category is for classic scooter enthusiasts that wish to access the race world on a budget.
Beginners will not be allowed in this category.
This is a formula for everyday scooters where amusement and fair play are pillars. Aggressive comportments will be sanctioned.
Scooters allowed in this « Large Promotion » must meet general rules requirements. They must be “larges frames” and must look as close as possible as original.
Specific rules for this class:
Original or very close to original.
● Fork : if not original, fork must be a Piaggio one arm (right or left side)
● Brake caliper (if disc): only are allowed Piaggio, LML and Grimeca brands. For Lambretta, a simple conversion kit is accepted (validation required from organization)
● No steering damper allowed.
● No body parts other than original material are accepted
● Maximum rim size is 10”
● Are mandatory:
○ Top and bottom parts for steel handlebar. Or aluminum body handlebar as PX, PK-XL2, T5, etc
○ Side panels
○ Front fender (aftermarket tiny mudguard tolerated)
○ Horn cover
○ Seat
● Reinforcement bar accepted
○ If you have strengthening bar, for greater safety in case of accident, a rigid plate must be installed in addition between bar and frame (4 anchor points minimum)

● No split exhaust port.
● No spacer under or over cylinder.

This category is for classic scooter pilots to compete on track using dedicated race vehicle with similar type of performance and handling.
The scooters accepted in this Small Proto category are small frames only and must follow the general rules.
Specific rules for this class:
Original or very close to original.
● All rolling chassis is left to your choice, in respect to general rules.
● Chassis must be metal (steel), in its original configuration. Cuts are not allowed.
● Are mandatory:
○ Top and bottom parts for steel handlebar. Or aluminum body handlebar as PX, PK-XL2, T5, etc
○ Side panels
○ Front fender (aftermarket tiny mudguard tolerated)
○ Horn cover
○ Seat
● Chassis must be metal (steel), in its original configuration. Cuts are not allowed.
● Maximum rim size is 10”
● Reinforcement bar accepted
○ If you have strengthening bar, for greater safety in case of accident, a rigid plate must be installed in addition between bar and frame (4 anchor points minimum)
● Any kind of engine. Capacity from 75cc to 140cc,

● No double intake (Polini, Pinasco, etc)

● All aftermarket top ends are allowed; even non-conventional prototypes are accepted (as Rotax cylinders for example).
