From the Headteacher
Well done to the children in year 1 to 3 who had their flu vaccine at school this week. They were all very brave and grown up. Hopefully this will ensure that the children will not be affected by flu this year.
Congratulations to Edda Coles, Catering Manager, who is the longest serving member of the ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ initiative and has won a prize for the school - a fantastic set of Science equipment. May I also remind those year groups who enjoy the ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ sessions that we ask for a voluntary contribution of £3.00 to cover costs of ingredients, power and resources.
Next week we are having a ‘Prayer Space’ set up in our Beehive room. This will be run by volunteers with the help of the teachers and teaching assistants. The Beehive is transformed into 4 quiet zones where children sit and reflect on people who are important in our lives, other people and the world. The children will be given the opportunity to respond to activities by talking to each other and the adults, drawing or writing. The children loved the prayer space last year as did the adults. We are looking forward to spending time in the peaceful environment that this space provides
Notices and Letters
Year 6 transfers to Secondary School
You will be aware that the closing date for the Year 6 to 7 Primary to Secondary Transfer is 31st October 2016 we have been contacted by the Admissions Co-Ordinator to say that there are still a few applications outstanding from our Year 6 pupils.
National offer day is 1st March 2017, there will be a second, late allocation round, but to miss the 31st October deadline could mean that parents may jeopardise their chances of being offered a school of their choice.
You are encouraged to apply on-line at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/admissions as this is the most secure way of applying, but if you are unable to access the on-line process, you can use a paper application form - contact Oxfordshire County Council on 01865 815175
If you are sending any form of payment into school, please send in a clearly named envelope with details as to what the payment is for.

British Legion Poppy Appeal
It’s that time of year again where we have the opportunity to support the British Legion with their annual Poppy Appeal. This week we will be selling the poppies from the office and then the week after half term we will have a team of Year 6 children selling them in the playground before and after school.
We have also been provided with a ‘box of goodies’ that will appeal to the children that contains pencils, rubbers, hair slides, bracelets etc - suggested donations for these items range from 50p to £1 and can be purchased from the School Office.

After School Assistant
After School Assistant required Term time only (38 weeks per annum) for 1 hr Monday to Thursday
from 3pm – 4pm. Commencing 31 st October 2016.
Duties would include supervision of children attending the club and provide support to the
Playleader and Playworker to provide high quality play opportunities and care for the children in an
inclusive environment and in accordance with the school’s ethos and procedures.
Rate of Pay £8.04 per hour and holiday pay.

From the PTA
There will be a uniform sale in the hall area, near the office all next week Monday 17th until Friday 21st October. The sale will run from 08.35-09.00 in the morning and from 3.00-3.30 in the afternoon. It will also be open on Tuesday and Wednesday during parents evening. You can come and browse and if you want anything just take it, and put your money in the donations box - it is self-service so that parents and staff do not have to man the stall.
As well as providing uniform to pupils and raising money for the school, we are supporting the school’s eco-policy of minimising waste and recycling. Any unsold uniform is taken to a charity shop. The money raised goes to the PTA who then use it to fund things like the laptops, library shelves, books, Christmas turkey and Panto transport.
A bit about how it works - There is a nearly new uniform sale twice a year in October and March. Parents bring in uniform that their children no longer need about 2 weeks before the sale (please do NOT bring it in before this, we do not have space to store it at school between sales). It should be donated already washed and carefully folded ready to hang up and sell. We sort all the uniform into item types and sizes and display it in the wardrobes and clear boxes. We would like your jumpers, cardigans, trousers, skirts, dresses, shirts, shorts and PE kit - we do not sell pants, socks or tights. All the work of organising the sale is done by volunteers with some support from the office staff.
Christmas Gift & Craft Fair
We’re delighted that William Jones estate agents in Didcot will be sponsoring our event again, by
advertising the craft fair on their sign boards: they will donate £10 for every sign board they put up
at any address (even a no-through road or cul-de- sac). If every family in the school agreed to have
a board, that would be a huge contribution to the craft fair profits before we even start fundraising
on the day.
Don’t worry, the signs make it clear that you’re just advertising an event, not selling your house! If
