Hello,
My name is (insert name) and I am a resident of (City, State). I am a concerned constituent. I am writing to support the permanent removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee in downtown Fort Myers. This statue is a blatant symbol of racism that should not be displayed in our community.
Robert E. Lee is the opposite of an American hero. Many people misunderstand Confederate history as something that was pro-American, when in reality, the Confederacy fought against the United States. Displaying a bust of a Confederate general in a public place is decidedly anti-American and pro-racism.
The City of Fort Myers authorized the legal removal of the bust by the Sons of Confederate Veterans to protect the bust. In doing so, they have assumed authority over decisions concerning the statue and should choose to permanently remove the entire statue from the public space. We will not stop protesting and pushing this issue until we see action being taken to remove the bust and pedestal completely.
Sincerely,
(insert name)
