The Hope City Church Story

Founded in 2023, Hope City Church was birthed out of a calling to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to our community, nation, and world. Pastors Chad and Amy have served in the           Cass County area as pastors for more than fourteen years.

Beginning in the Hunter’s Pride building near I-49 South, the church grew from two services to three and moved to its current location at the Mill Walk Mall. Hope City Church launched at that location on Easter Sunday 2023.

Hope City Church continues to pursue the vision of becoming a people of faith, anchored in hope, and known by love.

Our Pastors

Pastors Chad and Amy have served in ministry for over 3 decades. They have served as youth pastors, worship pastors, associate pastors, church planters, campus pastors, and lead pastors. Their calling is to translate God’s Word to this generation. Pastor Chad holds his BA in Bible and his master’s degree in Pastoral Leadership.

Who We Are

OUR VISION

OUR MISSION

To become a people of faith, anchored in hope, and known by love.

To bring the hope of Jesus Christ to our community, nation, and world.

What Shapes Our Culture

Our vision describes the people we are__________________.

Our mission describes what God has ___________________ us to do.

Our seven values shape how we live, serve, and lead together.

OUR SEVEN VALUES

SCRIPTURE  •  PRAYER  •  COMMUNITY  •  OUTREACH  •  GROWTH  •  SERVING  •  WORSHIP

The next two pages state each value exactly as Hope City Church teaches it.

“There are different ministries, but the same Lord.”

1 Corinthians 12:5 CSB

Seven Values of Hope City Church

Values are not wall art.

They _____________ how we think, choose, serve, and lead.

01  SCRIPTURE

The Bible informs our faith and practice. Our lives are born and built on the Word of God.

02  PRAYER

Prayer moves the hand of God. Nothing we do happens outside of it.

03  COMMUNITY

The church is not a building; it’s a family. Kingdom relationships hold our lives together.

04  OUTREACH

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. We join Him in His mission.

05  GROWTH

Spiritual growth is not an option. We pursue everything God has for us.

06  SERVING

We live to serve and serve to live. Jesus is our ultimate example.

07  WORSHIP

Life is dull without music! We seek to glorify God in song and also with our lives.

TABLE TALK

A VALUE THAT SPEAKS TO YOU

Which of Hope City Church's seven values speaks to you most right now, and why?

Put it into practice

One step I can take this week:

What We Believe

THE BIBLE The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.

THE TRIUNE GOD  There is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-equal and co-eternal.

JESUS CHRIST  Jesus is fully God. He was born of a virgin, lived without sin, worked miracles, died for our sins, rose bodily, ascended to the Father, and will return in power and glory.

SALVATION  Because every person is separated from God by sin, repentance and faith in Jesus are essential. Salvation is God’s gift, received by grace through faith.

THE HOLY SPIRIT  The Holy Spirit indwells believers, empowers godly living, and gives spiritual gifts for the building up of the church.

ETERNITY  There will be a resurrection of the saved to eternal life and of the lost to eternal punishment.

THE CHURCH  The Church is Christ’s body, called to unity, worship, discipleship, mission, and the proclamation of the gospel.

*See the Addendum on Page 67 for scripture references.

WEEK 2

Understand how Hope City Church is led,

organized, and stewarded.

“Everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.”

1 Corinthians 14:40 NIV

Why Structure Matters

When you invest your heart, time, family, and finances into a church, you should understand how leadership and accountability work. Healthy structure does not replace spiritual leadership; it creates clear responsibility and protects the mission.

Our goal

HOW WE ARE LED

Led by our _________________.         Protected by our_______________.

Guided by our _______________.

Pastors Chad and Amy carry the vision and provide spiritual leadership. Trustees help protect the integrity of the church through financial and legal oversight. The Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team help turn vision into clear direction, healthy systems, and effective ministry. Our staff guide, care for, and equip the Dream Team.

“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

Proverbs 15:22 NIV

Church Finances

Giving is an act of worship and trust. We do not give to earn God’s favor or force a financial return. We give because everything we have belongs to God and because generosity advances His work through the local church.

Tithes

A tithe means one-tenth. Hope City Church teaches giving the first 10% of our income through the local church as a biblical pattern that puts God first.

Offerings

Offerings are gifts above the tithe. They may support missions, outreach, benevolence, special projects, or other ministry needs.

Stewardship

Generous people should be able to trust that church resources are handled with integrity, accountability, and wisdom.

Financial accountability

Financial stewardship is not carried by one person. The Board of Directors provides financial and legal oversight, while pastors and staff are responsible to steward resources in alignment with the mission and priorities of Hope City Church. Our goal is to handle every gift faithfully, wisely, and with clear accountability.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

Hope City Church Family Commitment

If Hope City Church is home, we choose to move from simply attending to __________________.

This is not a promise of perfection. It is a shared commitment to pursue Jesus, build healthy relationships, carry the mission together, and use what God has entrusted to us for the good of others.

1  STAY PLANTED

I will gather faithfully, build authentic relationships, and allow myself to be known.

2  PROTECT UNITY

I will act in love, refuse gossip, pursue reconciliation, and honor spiritual leadership.

3  CARRY THE MISSION

I will pray, invite others, practice generosity, and help bring the hope of Jesus to people.

4  SERVE OTHERS

I will develop and use what God has entrusted to me and take the next steps needed to serve well.

WEEK 3

Learn the heart, culture, and pathway

of the Dream Team.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45 NIV

Everyone Has a Part

The Dream Team is the group of people who use their time, gifts, skills, and energy to help Hope City Church carry out its mission. Serving is not merely filling a slot. It is one way followers of Jesus love people, build the church, and grow into spiritual maturity.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV

At Hope City Church

EVERY PERSON HAS VALUE

No role makes someone more important. Every part of the body matters.

EVERY TASK CAN MATTER

Small acts of faithfulness can remove distractions and open a door for someone to encounter Jesus.

EVERY GIFT NEEDS DEVELOPMENT

Assessment results are a starting point. Gifts grow through practice, feedback, character, and faithfulness.

EVERY LEADER EQUIPS OTHERS

Healthy ministry does not collect helpers; it develops people and releases them to serve.

OUR HEART

We want everyone to serve, but we do not assume everyone is ready for every role. Growth Track makes you eligible to begin onboarding; it does not bypass wisdom, safety, training, or spiritual maturity.

TABLE TALK

SERVING MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Share a time when someone's service, even in a small way, made a meaningful difference for you.

Dream Team Culture

Four practices that help us live our values while we serve

1. We Love God

Ministry flows from relationship with Jesus. Skill may open a door, but ____________________ and spiritual health determine whether we can carry responsibility well.

“They were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

Acts 4:13 NIV

2. We Love People

People are not interruptions to ministry; ____________________ are the ministry.

We lead by serving, listen before assuming, and treat every person with dignity.

Dream Team Culture

3. We Pursue Excellence

Excellence is not ______________________. It is bringing our best, preparing well, and removing unnecessary distractions so people can focus on Jesus.

“People were overwhelmed with amazement. ‘He has done everything well,’ they said.”

Mark 7:37 NIV

4. We Choose Joy

Joy is not pretending that everything is easy. It is __________________ gratitude, faith, and hope while we serve.

MAKE IT LIFE-GIVING

The goal is not a polished performance. It is a healthy culture where people experience hope, truth, excellence, and genuine love.

Finding a Healthy Fit

DISC and spiritual-gifts results can point you toward a fruitful place to begin, but an assessment cannot assign your calling. Healthy placement considers the ___________________.

GIFTING

What spiritual strengths consistently show up when you help others?

PERSONALITY

What environments and responsibilities tend to draw out your best?

PASSION

What needs, people, or problems stir your heart?

EXPERIENCE

What has God taught you through your story, skills, work, and relationships?

CHARACTER

Are you growing in humility, integrity, teachability, and spiritual maturity?

AVAILABILITY

What can you faithfully commit to in this season without neglecting primary responsibilities?

BIBLICAL GUARDRAIL

Serving should often be life-giving, but comfort is not the ultimate test. Jesus also calls us to sacrifice, humility, and meeting real needs. The goal is a fruitful fit, not a consumer promise that every task will always fill your cup.

TABLE TALK

A HEALTHY FIT

Which of these six factors will matter most as you consider where to serve in this season, and why?

Your Dream Team On-Ramp

  1. Complete all four weeks of Growth Track.
  2. Use your DISC and spiritual-gifts results to identify one ministry area to explore, or at most two if you need comparison.
  3. Meet the ministry leader during the Week 4 Signing Day.
  4. Schedule the next conversation and hear the vision for that ministry.
  5. Complete the team’s onboarding steps, which may include a background check, audition, training, interview, or safety orientation.
  6. Preview the ministry area and ask honest questions.
  7. Complete your first serve with a leader who can coach you.
  8. Continue growing in character, skill, ownership, and leadership.
  9. Seek feedback and remain teachable, coachable, and willing to grow.

   10. Refuse to harbor offense. Address concerns directly, extend grace freely & protect unity.

GROWTH TRACK COMPLETION

Finishing Growth Track makes you eligible to begin ministry-specific onboarding. It does not automatically approve every participant for every serving role.

The Leadership Pipeline

Serving is not the finish line. Hope City Church wants to help people grow from participation

to _______________________ and from ownership to ______________________.

*Not every department requires every layer. A Coordinator is added when the size or complexity of a department makes that level helpful.

Dream Team Expectations

People deserve clear expectations before they commit. Every Dream Team member is asked to serve in a way that honors Jesus, protects people, and strengthens the team.

What we ask of every Dream Team member

What you should expect from leaders

SOME TEAMS REQUIRE ADDITIONAL STEPS

Depending on the ministry, onboarding may include a minimum age, background check, audition, interview, certification, safety orientation, or role-specific training. Your ministry leader will explain those steps before you commit.

Week 3 Next Steps

Week 4 is a guided Dream Team Signing Day. You will complete both assessments, identify likely ministry matches, and talk directly with leaders.

WEEK 4

Understand your personality and spiritual gifts,                                                                   meet ministry leaders, and choose a concrete next step.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 2:10 NIV

Understanding Your                                Personality and Gifts

God has _______________________ you. Your personality, spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, relationships, and experiences all help you understand where you may serve fruitfully.

“You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

Today’s flow

  1. Complete the DISC personality assessment.
  2. Complete the spiritual-gifts assessment.
  3. Identify your strongest results and review the matching guide.
  4. Choose one Ministry Department to explore, or at most two if you need comparison.
  5. Visit those leaders during Signing Day.
  6. Schedule a specific follow-up step before you leave.

ASSESSMENTS ARE TOOLS

Results create language for a conversation. They do not define your identity, prove spiritual maturity, or replace prayer, scripture, wise counsel, character, ministry need, and real-world experience.

A HEALTHY SERVING PACE

We encourage most people to serve faithfully in one ministry area. No one should begin by serving in more than two areas. Faithfulness and health matter more than collecting roles.

How to Take the Personality Assessment

Step 1: Answer each question under Sections 1-4 by circling the number that best describes you. Allow yourself two-to-three minutes to complete this step before moving on to the other steps.

Step 2: Add the total of circled numbers for the five statements under each section. Write each total on the indicated total line for each section.

Step 3: Identify the group with the highest totaled number and the second-highest totaled number to discover your dominant personality traits.

Box 1 = “D” personality
Box 2 = “I” personality
Box 3 = “S” personality
Box 4 = “C” personality

Write your predominant personality-trait sequence in the top-right corner: DI, ID, SC, CD, and so on.

Step 4: Read the description of your most predominant personality trait (D, I, S, or C) and the description of your two highest personality traits together (DI, ID, SC, CD, and so on).

Dream Team Signing Day

Visit the leaders connected to your results, interests, and experience. Your goal is not to make a pressured commitment. Your goal is to leave with a clear, scheduled next step.

Explore one or two ministry departments

Start with the one area that appears to be the strongest fit. Visit a second only if it will help you compare options.

Dream Team

Signing Day

Complete Your Dream Team Connection Card

A SEPARATE CARD WILL BE PROVIDED

Complete the Dream Team Connection Card.

1  CHOOSE A DIRECTION

Identify the department or team you want to explore first. You are choosing a conversation, not locking yourself into a permanent role.

2  COMPLETE THE CARD

Add your contact information, the leader you met, and the specific next step you agreed to take.

3  RETURN THE CARD

Give the completed card to the Growth Track team before you leave so the right leader can follow up.

4  FOLLOW THROUGH

Respond when the leader contacts you and complete the ministry-specific onboarding, preview, and First Serve process.

The card starts the next conversation

Growth Track makes you eligible to begin Dream Team onboarding. Your ministry leader will help you discern fit, readiness, training, and the healthiest place to begin.

KEEP YOUR WORKBOOK

Use the notes page at the back of this guide to keep your own notes from Signing Day. The separate connection card gives Hope City Church the information needed to follow up with you.

You Finished Growth Track

You now have the tools to understand Hope City Church, interpret your assessment results, and begin a serving conversation. The next step is not to wait for someone to chase you down. Follow through with the leader you met and complete the ministry-specific process.

STAY PLANTED

Keep gathering, building relationships, and letting the church know you.

KEEP GROWING

Stay in Scripture and prayer, build healthy relationships, and remain teachable.

START SERVING

Complete onboarding, preview the ministry, and take your First Serve step.

DEVELOP OTHERS

As you grow, use the leadership pipeline to help someone else flourish.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

1 Peter 4:10 NIV

THE FINISH LINE

You know where you may fit, who your next leader is, and what your next step will be.

Serving on the Dream Team is a privilege, not a claim to a position. Because we represent Jesus and care for people, we commit to live with integrity, humility, faithfulness, and accountability.

“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”

Philippians 1:27 NIV
