WOLMER WOOD,

MARLOW COMMON,

MARLOW, BUCKS

April 21st 1918.

Dear Mrs. de Laszlo

Many thanks for the list of artists – some of them are on the list I had drawn up but others are useful additions. Jerome[1] and I have between us a list of some thirty names and if a fair proportion of the men respond the petition ought to have some authority.

I hope that with the other efforts that are being made it will have the effect of securing at least some real mitigation of Mr. de Laszlo’s position, as the continued severity of his punishment is, I feel, unjust.

I was glad to find him in fairly good spirits but I thought he did not look well – he had got too thin and he looks strained and anxious. I can well imagine how he must suffer in his dismal and monotonous surroundings: to a man of his temperament such a life must be absolutely horrible and that he has been able to endure it so long is a wonderful proof of his courage.

We shall be sending the petition round for signature within the next few days and I will let you know the result as soon as possible. I am anxious myself to see how it is received.

With kind regards | Sincerely yours

A.L. Baldry.
