- Read Aloud

- Whole Group: Use pictures to identify community helpers and describe their roles in our communities. Compare and contrast jobs and how they are needed.

- Independent Practice: Fold paper in half. On one side draw a community that has many needs that people aren’t taking care of it. On the other side draw the same community where community helpers have provided their time and talent to make a better place for everyone

- How does each community job provide for our communities needs?

- Tell what would happen if we did not have community helpers?

- Describe what a perfect community would look like to you.

- Pair Share: Have children share the different ways they celebrate on a particular holiday.

- Independent Practice: Draw a picture of how the children in the story celebrate the 4th of July and on the other side of your paper draw a picture of how you celebrate it with your family.

- Name different types of holiday celebrations.

- How do different families celebrate some of the holidays in the pictures?

- Name your favorite holiday and tell how you celebrate it with your family.
