Jingle Jog 5k - December 21, 2019-
206 runners finished the annual High Desert Runners Jingle Jog 5K at Marie Kerr Park on Saturday December 21. Special thanks to Lisa Costello who was our race director for her 2nd year. Alan Squyres assisted her. The weather cooperated and we had a cool, but NOT windy winter morning. Everyone enjoyed their run and the hot chocolate and donuts afterwards!

1st ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LIGHTS RUN!
On Monday December 23 about a dozen HDR runners (and friends) did our first of what will hopefully become an annual event. We met at the corner of J8 and 30th west parking in the AV College parking lot. From there we took an easy run south on 30th and west on K8 to arrive at the City of Lancaster’s Prime Desert Wooodlands Park. The park was all lit up to celebrate the holidays.
From there we ran through the neighborhood making our way to Ave K, then through the neighborhood east of the college making our way to J8. Our goal was Clark Court - aka Candy Cane Lane... Lancaster’s cul de sac that goes all out for Christmas decorating!
NEW YEAR’S DAY HANGOVER RUN
On New Year’s Day 100 or so runners showed up for our annual Hangover Run at Vasquez Rocks County Park. The weather was beautiful this year. The recent snow had all melted from the park and the trails were clear. The winter morning was cold - but it was NOT windy. It was a great way to start the year! There are quite a few benefits of being a club member, Here are some of the highlights!
- Our local running store - Runner's Lane, on 10th Street West in Palmdale gives High Desert Runners a 10% discount. Just let them know you are a member when you make a purchase.

- We host several local runs each month, currently including the Nutty Runners 5k in February, the AV Fair Wave Race in August and the Jingle Bell Fun Run in December. Club members currently receive a $5 discount at each race. Check the race site links or our website for current info
- We host a summer Cross Country Race series on Thursday nights at Pelona Vista Park. It typically begins the last Thursday in June and continues until the 2nd week of August. Once again check the website for current information.
- We host a weekly run on Tuesday nights from 6 to 7 pm at Joe Walker Middle School on their track - 57th West & L8. This work out is appropriate for runners and walkers of all abilities. It is usually an interval based workout which is perfect for newer runners to build up time and distance while being perfect for experienced runners to hone speed. There are often some exercises included.
- We host a monthly Mountain Trail Fun Run Series. These are organized runs held in the local mountains on Saturdays or Sundays throughout the year. The schedule and the details are posted on our web site.
- We also host our annual Grand Prix Points Contest. This is a contest to see who can earn the most points each year by running at our and at other events. A complete list of the rules of the contest are here. And you can read our "How to Score Big in the Grand Prix Points Contest" article for another explanation. The top points scorers each year earn a nice spin medal at our annual awards dinner.
- Speaking of which, we hold an annual dinner, in late January where we share great food, great company, pictures of our year and where we bestow deserving runners some recognition for the year's efforts with quite a variety of awards. The club subsidizes a significant portion of the cost of the banquet making it an affordable evening for all!
